Question of the Day, August 14, 2010

A bunch of neat special editions have been revealed for some of this year's most anticipated releases. What's the best extra to find in a special edition? What's the best special edition you've ever purchased?

Art books. I like being able to go through the art books to see concept art and such.

In game items usually become available as DLC, and soundtracks can usually be found online after they come out.

Personally, my favorite is in-game items. I usually lose track of the other stuff, but the in game stuff gives me a slight advantage / a little extra fun to start off the game. Oh, and my favorite special edition was the Gears of War 2 LE, I thought it was well done.

I like cool extra shit. Like models and stuff. Art books and soundtracks are fucking boring.

I don't like special editions that use in game content that gives people an extra edge or extra game, it's just holding back stuff for people who don't think it's worth it.

But, that said, I don't really buy special editions at all, I just want the game really.

The only special editions I have ever bought were Halo 2s' Limited Edition in which you got a shiny case and a making-of DVD (before they started getting interesting) and the Gears of War 2 Limited Edition which gave an art book, metal casing, making-of DVD which also had gamer pictures and a Golden Lancer for in-game play.

Neither were particularly interesting as I don't like making-of DVDs and artbooks get looked at once then forgotten about (I got them because they were almost identical in price to the normal editions) .

I think in-game items are nice, but alone are not really worth the extra price.

Something from the game in miniature form is a nice idea for anyone with skin thick enough to ignore all the naysayers who will claim it is "sad".

I like the look of the Fallout New Vegas Special Edition as the items can be great for poker fans and Fallout fans. The kind of item you get which is game based, but can actually have some usage. Maybe a mug with the games logo or something.

I love art books because they're, well, pretty, and it's kind of amazing to see the process, but I usually flip through them once, really slowly, and then never look at them again. So I guess I prefer soundtracks, because I usually do listen to them more than once.

Also, those little figurines are really awesome too. Like the ACII one. And extra stuff ingame is great, gives you an actual incentive to preorder/get the special edition. What'd I like most? Probably a figurine. >.> I will look at it everyday and die a little inside. But I'll also feel very pleased.

Soundtracks for me, its all about the music! I love to hear it, and not have to play game to do so (Despiteo ften having so much more powe in the game!)

Also, great to put on iPod!

Figures and extra stuff like that. My Ezio figure from the assassins creed 2 SE still sits on a special place at my desk

I haven't bought many special editions. If special in game items are things like DLCs, such as Broken Steel, Point Lookout and such in Fallout 3 and Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles in Oblivion, then I've bought special editions mainly for that.

I like the maps, strategy guides and the occasional extra tidbit, like an ankh or a pewter dragon.

Art book and Soundtracks usually work for me, though they are fairly medicore compared to things like Alan Wake's novel extract, Modern Warfare 2's night vision goggles and pretty much everything you get in the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 mega edition.

The Tin. The soundtrack will be put up on Youtube but that tin feels awesome! Makes it feel worth paying £10 more.

Calumon: Yay Tins!

To me, special editions seem a bit of a waste of money. It's just more stuff lying around, and if it's in game stuff, I really don't care about it. It's generally just the game itself I want, not a whole junkload of stuff I don't need with it.

Peace~
