Geek Girls Hang With Stan Lee in Katy Perry Satire

[breakvideo=MTkxNDE2Mw==]

These geek and gamer girls know that Han shot first.

I'm not a huge Katy Perry fan, but the past few months have proven that the pop star is a popular choice when it comes to satirical videos celebrating geek culture. Back in July, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101881-Slave-Leia-and-Math-Geeks-Jam-in-Katy-Perry-Parody-Video>the Damsels of Dorkington put out that parody of "I Kissed a Girl," and now <a href=http://www.facebook.com/TeamUnicornFTW>Team Unicorn has released a similar video based on Perry's latest hit, "California Gurls."

This video, "Geek and Gamer Girls" is certainly cute and features some great nerd references, including appearances by <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Chicken-Season-Seth-Green/dp/B000E0OE3K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1284479032&sr=8-1>Robot Chicken DVDs, <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Walking-Dead-Compendium-1/dp/1607060760/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1284478969&sr=8-1>Walking Dead comics, and a chorus line about how the singers know that "Han shot first." The girls also dress up as Psylocke (from the X-Men), Lara Croft, Baroness (from G.I. Joe), and Han Solo.

There are also some relatively high production values, as well as some fairly epic celebrity cameos. Aside from Seth Green's rapping, there also brief appearances by Katee Sackhoff (better known as Kara Thrace on <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Edward-James-Olmos/dp/B0036EH3UC/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1284479065&sr=1-1>Battlestar Galactica) and comic legend Stan Lee.

While the song and its video are certainly entertaining, Katy Perry satires are starting to get a little played out. What would actually be really cool to see is a group like Team Unicorn put together a video as fun as this, but with some original music.

i think it was the escapists very own yahtzee who wrote in great detail about how pathetic the whole "female gamer/nerd/geek" image was, along side tons of other columnists for other websites, and i agree, pointing out your sex along side your hobby makes it seem like you cater exclusive to pre-teen boys.

And since im not a pre-teen boy, and have no interest in women wearing skimpy outfits i must say i found this movie to be rather boring and a little offensive, i sure hope there are normal female gamers out there.

Also getting a appearance from stan lee isn't that hard, that guy has made it his life goal to appear in everything ever.

I agree with everything except the part about women in skimpy outfits. I've always been a fan of skimp where appropriate.

Saw this days ago. Pretty ok, but those girls are completely misrepresentative of the majority of gamers, female or no: most of us are not that hot!

Over emphasizing female sexuality is one of the things that are bitched about in videogames, and yet 'gamer guuuurrrrllls' totally get off on showing that "Yeah, we're hot AND play games, tee hee" is a viable form of expression when IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING AS BEING A CAM-WHORE.

No amount of geek references or the sheer including of Stan Lee could have saved this video. It suffers not from a bad idea though. It's a satire on probably one of the most annoying songs to come out this summer. It makes complete sense that this video wouldn't be able to recover from the depths of pop mindlessness.

Oh my God, did that suck!

Just throw around some geek references and you got yourself a Youtube hit.

Congratulations Seth Green, you given me one more reason to dispise you.

I found this to be aggravating and derogatory.
I quite agree it sounds just like any other pop-song with game references, just because you put a bunch of references and have important people in your video doesn't exactly make it good. Nor does having women in skimpy outfits make the claims any better. You may just so happen to be a female that happens to like games but that doesn't really exempt you from being just as bad as most attention whores in the grand scheme of things.

So they represent their love for games by going naked in a pile of games and comic books?

Anyway! I think your Avatar is awesome Demented Teddy, psychotic lolita?

Not to be the downer here, but this is why there's so much misogyny on the internet. Guys game too, but women are put on a pedestal because they can successfully double jump or drive a vehicle in a game without crashing. Not saying there aren't genuinely good female players, I've met my share, hell, my ex gf used to regularly hand me my ass in UT, but this 'grrl gamerz aer teh secks!!1!" mentality is so twisted and goofy it almost lampoons itself. Yes, they each have a vagina, yes, they're pretty (meh) and yes they play video games; why all the worship? Guys get pretty resentful because suddenly it's not about how good or bad you play, or how much fun you have doing so, it becomes a matter of "it's a girl with a Dualshock in her hands, OMG PHOTO SHOOT!"

Then people have the gall to act surprised when sites like gamecrush pop up.

I'm not going to rant about this, it's too easy a target and I have a sneaking suspicion my opinion my elicit knee-jerk derision.

Seth Green is legendary, imo, but this was so off-key I couldn't stop cringing. Also, Katee Sackhoff with long red hair, brix were shat, my Starbuck.... she's ru-eeened!
