Demon's Souls Makes Brutalizing Return as Project Dark

Project Dark might not have the title of Demon's Souls 2, but it might as well.

From Software's become part of [http://www.amazon.com/Demons-Souls-Greatest-Hits-Playstation-3/dp/B002AB7TX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1284914919&sr=8-1] the PlayStation 3's Greatest Hits line, and a sequel has been greatly anticipated by the hundreds of thousands that bought it. We need not anticipate any longer.

Project Dark (working title), in development by From Software - the studio behind Demon's Souls - and published by Namco Bandai, isn't directly named as the sequel to Demon's Souls, but it's obviously a spiritual sequel. The game's first trailer has the same feel as Demon's Souls and shows gameplay that looks nearly identical.

Tons of gross demons? Check. Third-person combat? Check. The player's face catching on fire? This is definitely Demon's Souls.

Project Dark is already planned for release worldwide in 2011, on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 outside of Japan this time. The multiplatform release may explain its name change, as Demon's Souls was published by Sony in Japan. Its official website [http://www.fromsoftware.jp/game/projectdark/] provides little information other than that we'll know more early next year and that it's an action RPG. Regardless, it's nice to know our faces will be lit on fire again soon.

I'll see if I like this one. Demon's Souls was more or less too much for me (even though I did wind up beating it), but I still like the idea behind it. Now that I'm no longer roomed with a PS3 owner, I like hearing that it'll be released on Xbox 360.

A sequel in everything but name...

It isn't that common, but it used to be all the rage back in the NES days to port one game to another system under a different title due to lisencing issues and most kids only had one system and never knew they were playing a port.

Adventure Island was a port of Wonder Boy on the Sega Master System (the system before the genesis) because the characters and names were owned by Sony while the game itself was owned by Escape.

Seems odd to make it a spiritual sequel when it's so clearly very, very sequelish. If they were going to make it a "spiritual" sequel couldn't they change the setting at least?

GOAL! I'm so excited. LOVED Demon's Souls. Me and my roommate used to adventure together in a make-shift co-op mode (consisting of (the living) one of us putting down an invite in some out of the way corner of an area and the other guy quickly nabbing it), so much fun.

Siiiiick. Demon's Souls is one of the few times where I could forgive a sequel for being more of the same simply because Demon's Souls was that awesome.

Fuck yea!

What they should change: More weapons/items. Better character custimization. Better online connectivity (maybe that's just me, I had the asian version and could almost exclusively play with Japanese players). Maybe they could go a little into randomly created content, altough that might prove too challenging in a game like this (but would help replayability and would be pretty fucking sick when exploring uncharted territory with a group).

What they shouldn't tinker with: Delicious combat and feel/athmosphere. The save/losing souls/online system has to stay the same as well.

Also Project Dark is a horrible title, possibly even worse than Demon's Souls (for all it's double s's it's still pretty imformative). It better be a working title.

I loved Demon's Souls, so this is a big blip on my radar right now. I would love some more Demon's souls.

Looks pretty good. Going to wait for a few more trailers and gameplay before I really add it to my list of must-haves. However the fact its the sequel to Demons Souls is making it a rather large blip on my gamesdar at the moment.

I loved the gameplay of Demon's Souls but I didn't even try to finish the third level because I hate Dark Fantasy. It's a shame they didn't take a different route on the visual/narrative style.

I am already excited for this game, as my now New Game ++++++ file on Demon's Souls will attest to.
