Call of Duty Players Murder the World in Two Weeks

It didn't take long for Black Ops players to kill the entire population of this blue planet in-game.

Lots of people die in matches of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Something like a simple round of team deathmatch takes a good 75 kills to win - and when you consider that there are millions and millions of people playing team deathmatch every day, those numbers add up.

Those numbers really add up: According to the statistics that flash on the bottom of the screen between rounds, gamers have slaughtered 150% of the world's population in the three weeks between now and CoDBlops' launch earlier this month. It only took two weeks to hit the 100% mark, reports Virtual Economics [http://www.virtualeconomics.co.uk/2010/11/entire-population-of-the-world-killed-inside-a-fortnight.html]. Players have also fired roughly 200 billion bullets in that time, which really doesn't say much about our accuracy rate in-game.

Black Ops Jeffrey MacCormack [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105411-Its-Official-Black-Ops-Sold-Better-Than-Modern-Warfare-2] - find your own poignancy in the idea that such a popular piece of entertainment allows us to drive ourselves extinct one-and-a-half times over.

Oh no, I think the accuracy was good. It just took about 6 bullets per person.
I think it was a little more than that, somewhere in the region of 30 per person...which makes us look terrible XD

Awesome... If it ever real, the whole human race will be deemed extinct. :D
But surely we'd also respawn? It'd be a red jammy screen death followed by glorious rebirth.. but does that mean that the population just keeps growing and growing... :|

OT: This is pretty awesome. I wonder what most of us died of - like, what was the main weapon used for the majority of the killing of the world?

Part of that ammo thing is my fault... I like to run around with the M60 extended mags scavenger pro and act like the heavy from TF2

In Vietnam it took between 3000 and 30,000 bullets to kill one enemy :D

Roughly two-hundred-fifthy-thousand bullets are fired to kill a single man in the Afghanistan. ( http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/2005/050925-israel-bullets.htm )

The label of "Realistic" on Call of Duty is fucking ridiculous.

Well yeah, but that's because they fire at buildings that have insurgents inside and follow the policy of shooting even when they do not have a 100% clear line of fire.

It's because if everyone ran around the damn place like the do in Blops, so many US troops would die it would be insane, but if they did, you can bet your ass it wouldn't take 250,000 bullets to kill one person.

I do agree that the label of "realistic" on blops is bat shit insane though.

With statistics like that, there had to be at least one thousand funny kills like the grenade nutshot kill or care package kill.

Yeah if it really happened i wouldnt be scary of 10 year olds screaming while running with a machine gun..... first because they have no aim, second a real weapon recoil is a *****, third they simply dont possess a threath, running across warzones like retards, and yelling "I TOTTALY KILELD THAT GUY, YOU ALL SUCK!!!!!!!1!!111111!!111!11"

With all the "It took X number of bullets to kill man Y" comments it's always been explained to me that the vast majority of fire is to keep the enemy in cover while strafing and taking tactical positions etc. Most of those bullets arn't intended to "kill deir ass dead" just keep your own botty safe :)

True, but the accuracy rate doesn't take into account Grenades, knife kills, Exploding RC-Cars, dogs, and any other method to kill people except Guns. I've emptied a 20 round magazine into a guy's face from behind and he was standing still.

Is that only on the 360 or across multiple platforms?
I'm not entirely sure. The PS3 says that kills total more than the Earth's population, so I suppose we could try to match the numbers.
