Rock Band 2 Song List Revealed

EA [http://www.harmonixmusic.com/] have finally unveiled what everyone's been looking for - the real, full track list for Rock Band 2.

Over 80 songs will be included on the game disk, along with another 20 bonus tracks available as free downloadable content with the game's release. Made up entirely of original master recordings, the song list will cover five decades of rock featuring artists ranging from Kansas and Pearl Jam to Jethro Tull, Panic at the Disco, Lacuna Coil and many others. Highlights include the first-ever appearance of music by AC/DC and Bob Dylan in a videogame as well as the official debut of "Shackler's Revenge," the long-awaited new track from Chinese Democracy, which presumably will one day become the first new Guns N' Roses release since The Spaghetti Incident? in 1993.

"With Rock Band [http://www.rockband.com], Harmonix and MTV Games set out to create a powerful music platform for music fans, their friends and families to discover music in a way unlike ever before," said MTV Senior Vice President Paul DeGooyer. "We are honored that such legendary artists as AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Bob Dylan and more have chosen Rock Band 2 as a new platform for fans to experience their music. As our catalog of disc and downloadable songs continues to grow, we are determined to continue to provide the Rock Band community an unmatched ability to customize their musical experience with the artists and songs they love."

that is a truly epic song list but to be honest I'd of bought it simply because it had a Journey song on it.

Nice list.

I was surprised to find Master Exploder on the list.

I'm assuming it'll be heavily censored in the game.

Alas...still no Stairway :p
That's because Page is paranoid [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84922]. I wouldn't hold your breath on ever seeing it. I'd rather see Dire Straits anyway - hopefully they'll be willing to sell out for their fans someday.

Otherwise, it's an awesome set of tracks. Those, plus the DLC being cross-compatible, plus being able to import the tracks from RB1 make this upgrade a no-brainer. It's almost as if Harmonix thinks that by not treating us like wallets with legs they might earn our respect.

I'm curious to see how they plan on doing "Down With The Sickness", considering how many times he says "fuck", plus the whole freak-out part about 3 minutes in.

Anyways, I think I'll give this one a pass. Aside from Chop Suey, Eye of the Tiger, Testify, and Down with the Sickness, there are very few songs on there that I like, and one or two bands that I outright hate.

Also, what's up with the "Stairway" obsession? It's a great song, yeah. But great songs don't equal great Rock Band/Guitar Hero songs. I for one don't want to play 5 and a half minutes of slow repetitive notes just for 2 minutes of solo, no matter how awesome it is. Not to mention the fact that there are NO drums for the first 4 minutes of the song.

Some pretty good songs on there, and as usual half of the list is filled with songs I don't care for. Ahh well, take the good with the bad I suppose.

OK, I still don't get this. With all the DLC out there, what's the point of making a new game? Why not just release more songs?

1. Expanded peripherals, and a Drum Trainer.
2. Better visuals/customization (Rock Shop).
3. Expanded solo gameplay (World Tour).
4. Expanded group/net gameplay (Battle of the Bands).
5. You still get to use all the old DLC.
6. For a VERY small fee, you can grab all the songs from the RB1 disc too.

I don't even own RB1, so I don't have skin in the game. But those are the reasons I have seen pointed out as to why they are making RB2. That, and none of these are covers.

I have been looking very hard at this game since I've started playing SingStar, however. When it comes to the drums and singing, I think I'm warming up very fast to RB's way of, you know, scoring actual proficiency at an instrument. The only next level I can see is making the guitar and bass an actual guitar and bass with midi pickups. At that point, you could actually score your garage band against the rival band from the local watering hole, which would just bypass so much of the unnecessary violence and venereal disease associated with the normal routes of crushing another band. Or whatever. I just love a game that gives me points for actually nailing the "Mars" notes from "Is There Life On Mars?" without having to inhale cigarette smoke while I do it. If they could also score my actual guitar playing on "Bad Moon Rising" and "Tangled Up In Blue", along with vocals, I think I would have to throw in the towel for good and just buy everything Harmonix makes, ever.

Usually ddepends on the song. Much as I loathe Courteney Love, Celebrity Skin's still my favourite song to play on RB. Well, apart from Foreplay/Long Time. Which is pure awesome. Anyway, I'm dead chuffed about Mastodon being on there too and I think they chose Colony Of Birchmen is because it's actually one of their easier songs to play. I mean, imagine trying to do The Wolf Is Loose on drums?

I mean.. well, just listen yourself- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKw2s_AxUIw

An announcement where owners of the original could somehow port the RB songs into RB2 would be great... that's the only thing missing in my opinion. Being able to do that with the Guitar Hero games would be amazing, as well, instead of having to swap discs to play one or two choice songs.
