Naughty Dog Puts Uncharted 3 in Motion at VGAs

[gametrailers=708328]

The VGAs have revealed a first look at gameplay for the vaunted PS3-exclusive Uncharted 3.

released [http://www.amazon.com/Uncharted-Drakes-Fortune-Playstation-3/dp/B000UW21A0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1292172179&sr=1-1] a couple of days before the 2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards. At the event, the teaser became a full-on trailer, and it even snuck in a few snippets of gameplay.

The trailer begins the same way as the teaser, panning across a table covered with various objects that an Uncharted character might own, such a gun, ancient dagger, compass, map, passport, and diary likely found in a tomb once sealed for centuries. However, once the pan finishes, we see Nathan Drake himself walking across a fiery desert, but how he got there is anyone's guess.

My presumption is that the crashed cargo plane has something to do with it. It's also nice to see that Drake is still acquiring weaponry the only way he knows how, from the rigor-mortised hands of perished foes.

In Uncharted 3, Drake and previous acquaintance Sully are back in cahoots to discover the "Atlantis of the Sands" in the Arabian Desert. It doesn't look like there's much to climb there, so Drake is likely to encounter areas other than the desert too.

At the end of the trailer Naughty Dog included five brief gameplay scenes, which are our first look at what Drake will have to face in Uncharted 3. They confirm that Drake will have to jump between buildings, escape precarious situations involving an abundance of water, smash down doors in tandem with Sully, and engage in aquatic gun battles. According to Naughty Dog's twitter account, this trailer is "all from in-engine + actual gameplay," meaning that quite evidently the studio has topped itself again with the series' third entry.

Naughty Dog invites PlayStation 3 owners to "uncover the truth" in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on November 1, 2011.

OH COME ON!

Why the hell is everything clustering up the goddamn 2011 holiday season now? We have an entire summer available for rent, goddamnit, and the summer seems to be the best place to release this game considering the content.

Whatever, this still looks awesome. I'm always excited to see how Naughty Dog tops themselves up, they have a real knack for blending gameplay and spectacle all in one and they just push whatever button they can. Can't wait for this.

I guarantee you that there's going to be at least 5 games that secure the "December 12, 2012" or "12-12-12" release date.

I loved the last game and this looks at leas as awesome. Also 11-1-11? I got super excited before I remembered Yanks but the dates the wrong way around. So it's not a month away.

I hope Claudia Black is in this one too.

Claudia Black. She played Chloe in the last game (she does a fair bit of voice work including Morrigan in Dragon Age). I liked her.

OK, I'm exited for this game regardless, but...that trailer was a little disappointing. I mean, let's look at the debut trailer for Uncharted 2:

Waaaaay more epic, as far as I'm concerned. But still, it's a new Uncharted game. I'm happy.

Rumor has it that all footage is in-game footage.

I'm not a graphics nut, but damn is that sexy.

That was my exact train of thought. Major excitement, more excitement in it being only a month away, then crushing despair when I realized it wasn't a British date.

Yeah Chloe will be in it. I don't see why she shouldn't. It couldn't possibly any less random than how Elana showed up in U2.
One would hope so, but I'm sceptical.

Since Elena is pretty much Drake's prime love interest, I'm sure she'll be back for the third game. And since Naughty Dog will likely design a new set of friends, foes and potential love interest/rival for the third game, I'm afraid Chloe might be too much of a third wheel.

Which is a shame, since I always preferred Chloe over Elena; she was like my "bad ass horse riding instructor" fantasy come to life... Well, pixelated life anyway.

It's most likely prerendered ingame graphics, but it still looks amazing.

I just hope that the entire game won't look too beige with all the sand. What made Uncharted 2 so good wasn't just the grapical power, but mainly the terrific visual design, like the Nepalese city.

Batman's trailer trumped Uncharted's by a mile. From what I saw at the VGAs, the cutscene looked "meh" and the actual gameplay with him running and shooting looked much better.

Color me unimpressed for now. I need more footage.

What is it with Naughty Dog and having Drake crash with every vehicle he uses?

Because people love the crashing and burning of vehicles. Why do you think so many people watch NASCAR? Besides, it wouldn't be an Uncharted game if Nathan Drake didn't wind up in some precarious situation after crashing some type of transportation unit. Where would the excitment be in Uncharted 2 if the train didn't crash and Drake wasn't hanging from the side of a cliff?

I agree that the second game's trailer may have been more epic, but they captured some of that scope in this one as well. I for one immediately thought to myself,

"How the hell is there a car, crashed and standing straight up, in the middle of the desert?"
*camera pulls around as Drake climbs a dune, reveals massive plane crash*
"Ah... well... that'll do."

And maybe being alone in the desert captures the feel of the game somehow, we don't know yet. Uncharted isn't supposed to be a trilogy, is it?
