Resistance 3 Keeps Resisting in First Gameplay Footage

[gametrailers=708332]

Insomniac brought its first gameplay footage of Resistance 3 to the Spike TV VGAs.

A new trailer for Insomniac's Resistance 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Resistance-3-Playstation/dp/B003O6E67A] was revealed at the 2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards, showing gameplay for the very first time. Those accursed Chimera just can't be stopped.

Don't get confused, many parts of the trailer use live-action footage, like much of Insomniac's promotions for Resistance 3 to date. Insomniac didn't get that good at CGI. It makes an attempt at mixing scenes between both techniques, but it's quite obvious which scenes are which, not to say that Resistance 3 doesn't look great.

The landscape in Resistance 3 is as bleak as ever, but the series' previous hero Nathan Hale isn't around to save everybody this time. Resistance 3 stars Joseph Capelli in the hero's role as he hides out from the Chimera in Haven, Oklahoma. However, he makes the trek to New York City when given an opportunity to deal a killing blow to the parasitic species.

He evidently makes part of that trek on a boat, which is not as fun in the Resistance universe as it is in the real world [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU]. The Chimera still has a strong presence in the world, and is composed of various factions no less, so Capelli will have to use any of the game's upgradable weapons at his disposal in his mission to bring them down.

Resistance 3 will add two-player co-op to the game's campaign in both online and offline split-screen modes. Insomniac says it's planning a "progression-based" multiplayer mode too, so series fans have a lot to look forward to when Resistance 3 comes out on September 6, 2011.

I really enjoy the Resistance series, they all have a dark tone to it while still retaining the fun.

I was dreadfully disappointed with some of the changes they did in Resistance 2. There was no weapon wheel which limited your own strategies to what the developers thought you needed at the time, there was standard regenerating health making the gameplay go much faster than it should and diminishing the strategy, the multiplayer aspect, while overall fun, was a bit unfocused and clusterfucky, and some of the weapons didn't really have that "oomph" to it.

Still, I enjoyed Resistance 2, but after reading the GameInformer article on it a few months back, I am doubly excited for Resistance 3. They're bringing back the weapon wheel and upgradable weapons! Yay! Color me cautiously excited for R3.

It looks good, but I'm more interested in Uncharted 3, because I never was into this series. Still, for all the fans this is a good thing, it was teased and leaked for god knows how long.

I don't know if anyone else agrees, but get very distinct District 9 vibe from the ingame footage.

Looks good but are you sure thats Capelli (Yes I know they obviously state his name in the trailer)? Looks nothing like him aside from the scar. The first time I saw the trailer I was hyped that we'd play Grayson again..oh well I guess you can't blame a guy for not looking like Capelli in real life.

Resistance 3...can't wait.

As much as Im looking forward to this game, there is one thing that bother me about it.

Two-player co-op? But resistance 2 had 8-player co-op. What is the meaning of this downgrade? Explain yourself, insomniac!

Am I the only one that thinks, judging by the trailer, that Resistance 3 should be renamed Left 2 Resist?

I think we may be getting a melee weapon and by the looks of it there was a gladiator-esque arena, does this mean the chimera are kidnapping humans for some good ol' Roman fun?!

I remember them stating in the GameInformer article that they are trying to make it a more focused experience (competitive multiplayer is also coming down to 32 I believe), you know, quality vs. quantity. While the 8-player co-op was pretty fun, I think Insomniac got a little carried away with "L4D has 4 player coop? HA! We'll double that!" and sort of put together an 8-player mode just for the sake of having that number in the advertisements. It was great fun, but you have to admit it was more of a novelty to have 8 players at once.

I can understand that. I got a Cloverfield-District 9 vibe from it, myself.

Doesn't look as good as Drake's Deception for now, but as the gameplay was so limited, I'll reserve judgement. Story sounds good though; a little Half Life 2 vibe.
