Nearly Everything We Know About the Uncharted Movie Is Apparently Wrong

There is supposedly a lot of confusion surrounding the Uncharted movie, but exactly who is confused remains to be seen.

If you've been crying onto your controller about Mark Wahlberg's casting [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105618-Mark-Wahlberg-Confirmed-For-Lead-Role-in-Uncharted-Movie] as Nathan Drake and the "family dynamic [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105791-Uncharted-Director-Changing-Drakes-Back-Story]" that writer/director David O. Russell wants to introduce, you can dry your tears, as apparently, none of it is actually true.

In an interview with Joystiq [http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/uncharted-3-interview-with-justin-richmond/], Naughty Dog's Justin Richmond said that all the so-called "facts" about the movie are nothing of the sort. According to Richmond, who is the director for the third Uncharted game, Russell was as baffled by the idea that he wanted to put a family dynamic in the movie as everyone else was. He even went so far as to call up Richmond and say that he had no idea what the LA Times - which first published the quote - was talking about.

What's more, Wahlberg has not been cast as Nathan Drake yet, despite his comments to MTV news that suggested that not only was it a done deal, he was helping with the rest of the casting. It's possible that Wahlberg has signed on as the movie's producer - as he did for Russell's last film, The Fighter - which would explain why he's trying to recruit the likes of Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro. It's not clear what his actual role in the movie's cast actually is though, if indeed, he ends up having any role at all.

It's hard to know what to make of this information. There's no reason to think that Richmond is being untruthful, but at the same time, there's no reason to think that the LA Times or MTV are either, which means at least one person is mistaken. Hopefully, we'll find out who very soon.

Wahlberg hasn't been cast? Well, I might be the only person disappointed by this news.

He still might get the role, and I still believe he could pull it off. Oh well, now all of the Fillion fans will have something to be happy about...for now.

How could so much public information be so wrong like this?

At least now they can start with a blank slate and hopefully make a good movie. Only time will tell.

Well that's a relief, but if Wahlberg does end up getting a role in the making of the film I've got the perfect job for him; the guy who gets everyone coffee.

And now we can all breathe a sigh of relief! Now we can hope that (number one pick) Nolan North is ended up cast as the movie star or (second pick) James Roday! Here's to hoping.

Thank God. The way it was looking, it looked like crap. I trust that they'll take it in the right direction.

Couldn't give a monkeys about the actor, but hearing the family theme may be out the window has certainly brightened up my day.
Might get treasure hunting and shooting ancient monsters on the big screen after all.

Best day ever.

Now it's just a matter of waiting to hear how they're actually going to fuck it up.

::sigh of reserved, yet hopeful, relief::
Honestly, I was hoping that the Wahlberg/DeNiro/Pesci casting was merely a smokescreen to drum up nerdrage interest in the film. That way when the real casting is announced :):crosses fingers:: Come on, Captain Tightpants... err, Nathan Fillion. Damnit, hon, stop calling him that around me!), there will be a collective sigh of relief across the net, and unprecedented opening weekend numbers for a game>movie release.

EDIT: Of course, as much of a Fillion fan household we have here, I think Nolan should have a chance to go for the part, as well. We know the voice and, from watching the live-action mocap for the cutscenes, he shouldn't have too much issue with getting into the part physically, as well.

I have mixed emotions. On the one hand, Mark would be great for the action sequences, but the humor? I just don't see it happening, too dower.
You don't think Wahlberg can do humor? Watch <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.230924-2-50-Reviews-The-Departed-2006>The Departed or <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.240196-2-50-Reviews-I-Heart-Huckabees-2004>I Heart Huckabees. He can play a funny character, and I can see him as a good Nathan Drake.

As for Fillion...I haven't actually seen him in anything, and I'm sure he'd do a good job too. I'm just too big a Wahlberg fanboy, I guess.

Until they give it to Jayden Smith or someone like that. >.>

It's probably still going to be crap anyway, but atleast it's new mysterious crap and not the old moldy turd that was floating in the toilet.

But I don't really care; Uncharted 3 is set for release at the end of 2011 and it's looking great. The movie can go right ahead suck in a dark corner.

The same way they fuck up every other video game-based movie: bad writing and abbreviated story. Maybe sooner or later Hollywood will catch on to the fact that jamming a ten-hour experience into a two-hour form can't be done without stripping down every aspect of the original.

I hope no one will be upset if I hope that it's the LA Times and MTV that are wrong here.

Yes. Make way for Nolan North, and not Nathan Fillion. Fillion can go help Marky-Mark get people coffee as long as Nolan North is still alive as far as I'm concerned.

Not that I'm unhappy with the news, but... seriously, what the ****? I'm not putting my hopes up or anything, because when crap like this happens (some news, bad or good, suddenly turning out to be untrue) you can't help but expect more of it (for good or bad).

Still. It would be great for games to get normal movie adaptations. So far Prince of Persia is the best game to movie adaptation, and though I enjoyed watching it, I don't want it to stay that way.
