Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Momories had a good plot twist... if you've never played the first game, that is...

Also, the plot twist involving Jak in Jak 3 was bittersweet... if you've played the last two games in the trilogy, I think...

For me, one of the best twists in a video game, was in To The Moon, when you find out what had happened to the protagonist and the whole story comes to focus. It's also for me one of the saddest moments in a game and which left a durable impression.

I won't spoil it for people who haven't played it yet and I definitively recommend it.

My favorite plot twist (that no one's mentioned yet)?

You know Zanza, the giant guy on Prison Island who released the power of the Monado? Turns out that he was a different guy all along and the real Zanza has been residing in Shulk this whole time... oh, and he's actually a sociopathic wannabe god who wants to reset the world so he won't be forgotten and fade away. And Shulk is technically a reanimated corpse who died years ago.

...Gotta admit didn't see that one coming...

Planescape: Torment was chock full of them. Spec Ops: the Line is a great contender... even Starcraft had a decent twist with Kerrigan being revealed as the Overmind's pet project.

Some of this list is not plot twists at all, especially not Metroid and Final Fantasy VII. Breaking a stereotype is not a plot twist.

Or just play The Witcher 3 and be second-guessing every sidequest's motives and potential outcome.

Could the first page in these kinds of lists name the games that might be spoiled? Would be just dandy.

I don't like the twist of the main character dying arbitrarily, because no matter how many times you die playing normally, this is like the game developers saying "Fuck you, you die when WE say you die!", like it's staking agency away from the player.
Also, I agree on the lack of Bioshock 1 on this list. Fix that, would you kindly?
