I liked Mass Effect 3. It didn't have as good a story as Mass Effect 2, but good nonetheless, and the combat was much better. However, I never experienced the original ending, only the extended cut.
Mass Effect 3's Happy Ending Mod (PC only) is much better than the official ones.

OT; Command & Conquer 4... yeah. I think that was around the time I heard EA say that no one liked single player RTS games anymore.

I'm not sure what Duke Nukem Forever is doing on this list. You can hardly accuse it of killing the franchise when then franchise has been dead for nearly two decades and has only remained in public consciousness due to this legendary vaporware (that probably should have stayed that way).

It's not so much a franchise killer as it was a drawn out and desperate attempt at survival.

For me DA2 is definitely a game you should add to that list, literally broke the franchise for me and made me lose my trust in Bioware.
except it was actually not bad........

Even great videogame franchises can have a bad title in them, and these eight are great examples of that.

your lack of Metroid other M disturbs me considering all the new about the new spin off game.

You know what they say about opinions - for me it's the worst game I've played in the last decade.

Let's not forget that Gearbox trumpeted the acquisition of that IP, and said openly that they were planning more games in it once DNF launched. Strangely, they're not talking about that anymore.

Well, Space Siege kind of already did that. It's not a part of the series per se, but it's what we got instead of Dungeon Siege 3, and it sucked. Then we got the actual DS3, and it also sucked. Point is, DS was dead and rotting before DS3 came and pissed on the corpse.

I liked, nay, I loved Resident Evil 6. Come at me.
I don't know, Piers constantly spouting off, "my captain," struck me as friggin' hilarious. Or was that just me?
Oh, of course!, 90% of the dialogs were utterly stupid and sometimes downright hilarious. I think my enjoyment came at approaching it like I would with a "so bad it's good" film.
That's what endeared 5 to me so much. And a large part of why I came back for RE6. I mean, if you were looking for a tense horror experience or a serious story then I could understand the disappointment.

But, at the same time, this is the same franchise that started with a Zombie Shark and who features Midget Napoleon in RE4. This series has always been kinda bonkers. So I'm not sure what people expected from RE6.

To be fair, it is also really nice that Revelations and Rev2 are out there. They're as bonkers, but they seem to feed more into the classic desperation play that the fan veterans wanted.

To be fair, Dungeon Siege has always struck me as a very inconsistent franchise. I actually like the first game, but it's really more of a squad level RTS than a Diablo clone. I get that was the point, but like Spellforce it didn't really do either part well. Though, where Spellforce was build bases and raise an army, Dungeon Siege was, you're managing a party of adventurers, recruiting new ones to replace casualties, and managing your epic quest.

Then we get DS2, which was more of an ARPG, but it as an ARPG it was still incredibly shallow because it was still building towards a squad based combat system. But, you didn't have the unit variety to make the RTS part work. The RTS elements got tossed, like having to replace dead units. The Squad cap got cut in half.

Then we got Space Siege which was just a really shallow sci-fi Diablo clone.

Then DS3, which... at least on that one, I can say it was legitimately interesting at times, but it still had the really shallow hybrid ARPG stuff, bundled into 4 player coop. Which... I mean, if we're going to do 4 player coop, then why are all the characters still so mechanically shallow?
