Darksaber also refers to an attempt by a third-rate Hutt to make a poor man's Death Star, in a book of the same name. He basically steals the schematics and has one of the Death Star's designers strip it down to just the superlaser and some engines. He also has it built by a species with a hive mind and very short attention span. Predictably, the first time he uses it (while joyriding away from a New Republic attack force in an asteroid field) it completely fails to work and gets the whole thing crushed to scrap.

It wasn't one of the better books.

Uh, I wouldn't call these "Easter Eggs," as most of them were either fairly obvious or featured prominently in the film.

It's not like Rogue One is lacking in the genuine Easter Egg department, after all. It's chock full of references to both current canon and "Legends" material (Juggernauts, Kyber Crystals, the Whills, Hammerhead Corvettes, the Ghost and Chopper from Star Wars: Rebels, Red and Gold Leader cameos, etc.)

Ah yes, I have vague memories of checking out that book from the library decades ago. It was written by Kevin J. Anderson I believe, the same hack who wrought such blights as the Dark Empire and Jedi Academy story lines upon the Expanded Universe.

Come to think of it, barring some notable exceptions like the Thrawn trilogy and X-Wing series, most of the post-Endor novels written during the 90's were shit. At least they introduced some cool ships like the E-Wing. Also, the Rogue Squadron level featuring an adaptation of the Battle of Calamari was pretty rad.

Sorry Jeff, but this has to be one of the most poorly written articles on the Escapist.

Someone needs to read up on the difference between "Easter Egg" and "Trivia"...

Also, you put together a easter egg list, but didn't include any of the SW:Rebels references (The Ghost, Chopper, the intercom calling for captain Syndulla)?
