Can't really disagree with any of these, and it's perhaps the only top 8 list where I've played all of the entries. However, I'd nominate Banjo-Kazooie over Donkey Kong 64. Not a bad game, but I prefer the bear to the ape in this case.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
You probably should have excluded nintendo games since that pretty much guarantees it turns into a list of nintendo games with a few others.

Button mashing was (and is) quite literally the worst thing you could do in Smash Bros, since the other player only has to walk away from your flailing efforts to be completely safe.

I think it contributes hugely to Smash Bros persistence in competitive fighting games that button mashers are even more doomed than in other fighters.

Now for the larger and better list:

Every game made by Nintendo (including games like F-Zero, Paper Mario)

Every game made by Rareware (Conker, Jet Force Gemeni, etc.)

And notable third parties:
Hybrid Heaven
Body Harvest
Ogre Battle 64
Turok trilogy
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Quest 64 (My personally opinion as I like the design of the world you traverse)
Doom 64
Star Wars Shadow of the Empire
Star Wars Rogue Squadron

Banjo Kazooie > DK64. I liked DK64, but Banjo was better.

Only reason Mystical Ninja is not on all such lists is because not enough played it. Only Morrowind beats it on my list of favorite games ever.

The Smash Bros. Brawl images in Mario Kart are really bugging me.

Not my list, so whatever. But Mario Party 3 definitely should have been on here. Also, Kirby 64 and Bomberman 64: The Second Attack.

I have a special memory of "Hey, You! Pikachu!" for the N64. My brother rented the console and the game so he could talk to Pikachu and took the day off school to play it all day and went full ADD and spent 8 hours shouting into the microphone "Thundershock" to get Pikachu to make sparks. When I got home I spent the next three hours hearing him repeat "thundershock, thundershock, thundershock" and I doubt he played past the first screen so he could keep talking to Pikachu.
I finally come in to see what was so amazing for him and it was quite ordinary and not worth two minutes of anyone's time.
Then suddenly Pikachu stopped doing thundershock and started walking around - possibly because he destroyed the microphone by repeated proper use - and gets retard strength, takes his deepest breath and screams "BAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!" as intensely as he could. As if it was programmed to be told he was bad or if he could feel bad for itself. He stopped playing it after that.

Lots of fond memories playing Mario Party. Specifically where I'd play DK and I'd torment an AI controlled Mario by trying to get him to have the least amount of coins and stars (0 and 0 if possible). Killing him first in mini games, failing on purpose if he were my ally. The one game you had to wind up floating bom-ombs and I managed to spam A, B so much that after everyone else managed to get only 50 yards or so, mine kept going past 120 yards. It was kind of funny as it slowed down at around 80 and then went wild and cranked out the next 30 yards quite fast. I gave myself some bad tendonitis and had to stop working out for a couple of months.

It was pretty fun but I think the SNES had the better games.

My first N64 experience was with DK64 and its monkey rap... *sighs* Good times... Not as good as playing Banjo-Kazooie for the first time, but good times nonetheless...

Other than that, Pokemon Stadium and Mario Party 2 was/is the shit!

I enjoyed all the games you threw up on your list, and I still think you left out better games! That's how great the N64 was.

Not surprised you chose all those though, I know exactly why they were popular, but I do believe Majora's Mask in Nintendo's masterpiece.

I'm going out on a limb and say some of those screenshots are from romhacks and retextures. Multiplayer OoT? MK64 reskin? And Good Lord, what the hell happened to Peppy's eyes?!

Personally, I find DK64 to be overrated. Even back in the day I thought the degree of item collection was excessive, and the sprawling levels made the constant switching between Kongs tedious.

My list would probably be as follows (in no particular order):

Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Paper Mario
Star Fox 64
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Super Smash Bros.
Space Station: Silicon Valley

Honorable mentions: Mario Tennis, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Star Wars: Battle for Naboo, Banjo-Kazooie, Bomberman 64 (LOVE the "Blue Resort" music) and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (the Snowspeeder and Skyhook levels were THE SHIT back in the day...shame the rest of the game was mediocre at best).

This must have been an easy list to make...considering the N64 only had about 8 good games to begin with. :p

Where were Star Wars: Rogue Squadron(would have ditched Star Fox in favor of Rogue Squadron) and F-Zero X(would have ditched Mario Kart in favor of F-Zero)?

Took the words right out of my keyboard. I'd also add Diddy Kong Racing, Blast Corps. and Majoras Mask (haven't played it, but should be good).
