I can't believe Case Closed has been going on for over 800 episodes. No wonder Funimation gave up dubbing it.

Pokemon is at over 900 episodes though, not including the specials and movies I think.

No Hunter X Hunter well the first version or did the newer one also ended?

Man watching Bleach openning 1 is a classic. Also Naruto Shippuden would had ended already if it STOP THE RECENT FILLERS ALREADY!!!

I wish other anime/manga would get this treatment.

Okay, maybe not this level of treatment, but still. So many animes that I like end after one or two seasons, usually without wrapping up the main plot. The Devil is a Part Timer, A Certain Magical Index and Railgun (yes, I know there are rumors about a third season, but until I actually see it...), Spice and Wolf; the list goes on.
I don't want them reaching Bleach or Naruto levels of episodes, but it would be nice if these shows stuck it out a bit further.

As for Naruto, I'm still buying the box sets as they come out. It has become a quest now, a mission to own every single one.

Er while One Piece does have some filler as any long series like that does, it actually has very little of it. I have gone through it around 8 times now and there is honestly only a handful of filler arcs in the whole thing. Most of them only last 5 eps or so and most of them are at the start of the series. Though unless you watch it all maybe it seems like there is more filler? I will admit specifically with the anime more than the manga there is parts that can be a bit slow paced admittedly

I know right? To be honest I'm actually kind of enjoying this "Retelling of the story" type filler that we've got at the moment but don't stick it in the middle of the final fucking battle.

And that stupid dream world filler we had...ugh....

Bleach was so awesome for the first twelve or so episodes. Then it began to decline, faster and faster. I gave up after the Soul Society arc finally finished, particularly because it seemed as though even the animators had stopped caring.

The longest anime I'd consider watching is Monster, but at 72 episodes it's already a daunting time commitment. So awesome, though.

Both Hunter x Hunter are much shorter at 62 episodes for the first and 148 episodes for the second which ended in 2014.

The original Naruto series is well over 50% of terrible filler, Bleach got it even worse. I straight up skipped arcs. I don't like filler but I don't necessarily hate it. The trouble is that until later in the Shippuden series, filler was generally pretty poorly written. A few years back Naruto had some decent filler with some looks into Kakashi's past and such. Bleach just kept getting more and more outrageous.

I would love to watch Detective Conan, but goddamned, 800 episodes? I sort of feel like I don't even want to watch what's on Netflix now...

Hee. Not to brag or anything, but I not only know about Dr. Slump but I've also read the entire series.

Plus, I've read twelve volumes of Sazae-san. Most manga fans I know haven't read a single strip of it.

Eh, I'm not really a fan of super long-running anime, I don't have the time, patience, or attention span to even keep up with any of these... and all the filler doesn't help.

I am surprised Legend of the Galactic Heroes did not make the list. It's admittedly shorter than the others at only (only!) 110 episodes, but is a vastly better show than any of the ones listed with the possible exception of Lupin III.

So we aren't counting Gundam as one thing? There's over 300 just on my shelf, not counting stuff not in NA and Turn A which I haven't gotten yet.

And while not as long as the majority of this list, I'm still proud of my complete run of Urusei Yatsura. 198 episodes, 6 movies and 6 OVAs on 62 DVDs.

And also a fan of Dr Slump. Full run of Manga and the movie set they got out last year. I still find it greatly funny that at one point, the great and mighty Saiyan god needed to be saved by a flat chested robot girl with glasses. If they're going to continue this run of new DBZ material, I'd lover her to show up, just to see how long it would take her to annoy vegita past the breaking point.

I gave up with bleach 3/4 of the way through season 2. When I'm 17 episodes in, the story has moved on about 5 minutes and there's still an entire series (at least) to go in this arc (which really could have been a 2-4 episode deal max) I'm out. Give me a nice series that's done and dusted in 20ish episodes and has a tight storyline and I'm happy.

Gundam isn't in total a straight time line containing everything in one universe Build Fighter see to that for sure. But the other series mentioned attempt to follow the same people or timeline even with time skips like Naruto or Dragon Ball.

Still worth the ride, nonetheless...

What about the 269 and counting episodes of Fairy Tail?
Isn't the manga half-way done, though?

OT: I would have went with Inuyasha, personally, but we all know what's the real king of long-running anime franchises...Scooby-Doo!!!!!!At least you can watch the longest running anime in a "year"... You can't with Scooby-Doo, though... :p

This List makes me wonder what if Berserk had gone beyond the Golden Age arc how many eps would it be at? Which in turn makes me kinda sad.

Jesus Sazae-san, 7332 episodes...

It must be fascinating to watch, if only to see the animation style evolve through the decades. I sort of want to try to watch some of it now. Does it even have arcs? How does something that long even work?

There, ran it through the Bullshit Filter (tm). It's cool man, embrace the geek-bragging. Love it, wear it proudly.
