It still kinda baffles me how did the Master System managed to stay around with literally 2 buttons instead of 4 like the NES (counting the Start and Select buttons), and I mean with games more complex than your typical Atari 2600 game, with titles like Phantasy Star and such.

As for the Pippin, well... Sony kinda liked it.

Similar to the Atari 5200, the colecovision controler was out on the market before the atari 5200 if i'm correct, but have an interesting difference. on the coleco, each games came with an insert that was going over the numeric pad
once inserted into the controler, the keys could have different function for each game without being confusing. i remember the complexity of the wargames game (sort of missiles command) where you had to track missiles on 6 maps, note the USA map on the insert, so that you could link each keys to a region.

I miss the days when all consoles and console related equipment was covered in fake wood. :3

Apple has toyed with consoles at various points in its history
Was there something other than the Pippin that actually made it anywhere near the market? I cannot recall.

There was a Pause button on the console itself, wasn't there?

OH SHIT!, you're right!, disregard what I said :3

It's still kinda weird to have the pause button on the console itself, but I guess that's the natural evolution of coming from the 2600 days of having to fiddle the console to set it up.

...I think a couple of these were covered by AVGN...

Other than that, I'm digging the boomerang controller...

I can't believe people still remember the Famicom controller with a microphone instead of select and start buttons.

The 'pause' button was actually on the console itself. But even more forgotten is the left hand 'Sega Control Stick'

Pretty sure I still have this thing in storage!
