Rocksteady Unveils Arkham City's Robin

He might not be fighting alongside Batman himself, but that doesn't mean that Robin isn't ready for Arkham City.

We've known for a long time that Batman wasn't going to be on his own in Arkham City [http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Arkham-City-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0JAVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308669722&sr=8-1 ] - Catwoman was part of the equation pretty much from day one - but it's only recently that we've learned that Batman's stalwart sidekick Robin would also be joining him in the lawless ghetto. But thanks to Rocksteady, we now know a lot more about the Boy Wonder's role in the game, from what he looks like, to exactly which Robin it is.

In a post on the official Arkham City forums, community manager Sarah Wellock answered a series of frequently asked questions. The person under the mask is Tim Drake. As fans of the comics will know, Drake is the third person to wear the Robin mask, following in the footsteps of Dick Grayson, the original Robin who has since struck out on his own as Nightwing, and Jason Todd, who died at the hands of the Joker, only to return years later and becoming the antihero The Red Hood. Rocksteady has also included a nod to the comic book continuity - Drake is not the current Robin - by including his Red Robin [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Robin_(comics)] costume as an alternate skin.

Sadly, Robin will not be playable in the main game, but players will be able to use him in any of the main game's challenge maps, as well as the two exclusive maps that are unlocked along with the character. He comes with his own unique set of gadgets - presumably including the staff he's carrying in the picture - and moves. Currently, he remains a Best Buy exclusive, although Wellock said that retail partners for other territories would be announced soon.

As a comic book fan, it's both interesting and exciting that Rocksteady picked Drake rather than the arguably more famous Dick Grayson as its Robin. Hopefully this means that if/when Arkham City sees a sequel, we might get to see Nightwing. It's probably too much to ask for Batgirl and Azrael as well, but Rocksteady may yet surprise us.

Arkham City comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 18th.

Im glad he is not playable. Its odd but I am concerned they are trying to do too much in this game and will fail to capture the greatness of the first one (retarded final boss aside). Oh well, i guess I should complain about too much new features. I just hope they dont bite of more then they can chew.

He kind of reminds me of Cole Mcgrath, or maybe even Eminiem from his "Without me" Music clip, the part where he dresses like a superhero, ha jokes.

Use of Robin? I approve.
Use of Awesome Robin? I approve more.

I just hope they don't try to overextend themselves with all of these. I mean his own moveset and gadgets for just the challenge maps? Or is the two unlockable levels something like an Assignment Ada deal?

This design is something that really says "Batman's Apprentice" in ways that other Robin costumes I've seen never quite have to me. I'll have to see it in full colour to judge properly, but it's a long way from the "Little boy in underwear" look I often associate with Robin. As someone who never cared for the character, I approve.

umm... Why starkiller is in this picture wearing cape and silly outfit? (my first thoughts on picture)

Silliness aside i'm not a robin fan or know comics but since character is important to continuity it's just fitting to let robin in the B:AC

That most certainly does not look like Robin to me. He looks like, as someone mentioned, goddamn Eminem.

Batgirl is already in the game. I figured that we would see Robin in the sequel. He should be fun in the Challenge maps. His design is alright, I guess.

I'm not sure if the shaved head quite works... I can tell they're goign for 'martial arts monk' but they're landed somewhere around 'skinhead'. Oh well, at least he looks like a capable fighter regardless.

..You mean Oracle right?
OT
So Tm Drake FINALLY make a video game appear in a video game? Not counting Lego Batman or DCU Online.

His Uniform is what I epected. Armor in the right places, flexible almost. Tim drake is not the natural acrobat that Dick was. His cape is much shorter then I expected. Long enough to do the basic swipe and glide sections.

Short hair? He look a little angry but meh, Diffrent universe.

Yeah, sorry. I was running under the assumption that people who played the first game knew who she was.

I was wondering why Cole McGrath was cosplaying as Robin.

I would have rather they gone with Nightwing really. Or at least make Drake look more likable. He looks like Todd after the first dozen lead-pipe whacks.

They could throw in Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown, though.
