O..k so just got empire total war (dont worry this isn't a game topic) and i wen't to you gamer.com and found out that it was my graphics card does anyone know how i can change my graphics card setting to suit empire total war or what level of graphics i should change it to?

Here is the info from yougamers.com
Display Card!: 256MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card (SM2.0) /

Comparing your display card NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with the requirement NVIDIA GeForce 6600
? Your display card is significantly more powerful in raw performance
? Your display card has all the required features

Now even thought this info says otherwise! it must be my graphics card because they game lags like hell in full fights scene (even when not in fight scenes)
Help would be really apreciated i aint that good with computer hardware

What makes you think it's related to your graphics card? What are your processor and RAM like, and have you updated all the drivers?

You don't have any antivirus applications, etc. that are hogging the memory?

I don't get what you're trying to say I'm sorry, are you asking how you can upgrade your graphics card from the 6600? If so, you have to buy a graphics card.

*EDIT* Wait I get it now. It's not telling you you need the 6600, it's saying your 8600 is better than the 6600 required. I play that game using a 9800.

What are you running it on, significantly may not mean to max everything.

No; I don't mean remove it. Just try playing offline with it disabled and see if that works.

Just by the way, in your OP, you don't mean that you're trying to run it at max settings?

A)Are you running the game on max graphical settings?
B)Are the requirements you are listing the minimum requirements or the recommended?

If you're running it on max settings, with only the minimum requirements, yes it is going to lag. The minimum requirements are usually listed for minimum graphical settings. Even the "recommended" requirements usually are not enough to run a game "maxed out" on video settings. I would try lowering the settings a little, see if that helps; maybe not to minimum, but try like, a medium setting.

If that doesn't work, try seeing if there are background processes taking up system resources. You can see a list of processes in the task manager (crtl+alt+delete). Most processes are extremely abbreviated, so if you can't decipher what the processes is through the name, just Google the .exe and you'll usually be able to find what the host program is. You can decide from there if its worth stopping the process or not. Also, sort by memory/cpu usage first to get rid of the more resource intensive processes first.

Of course, you could just get yourself a better video card. 9600Gt are only 150-200 dollars, and 8800GT are 100 or less.

Turn the settings down to their lowest and see if the problems persist. If they do, you can discount the video card as the source of the performance issues; if they're resolved turn up settings incrementally until performance lags again. The biggest performance killers are high- or ultra quality textures, heavy physics, reflections and HDR, anti-aliasing, and high resolutions. Disabling a few of those won't make the game hideous, but will improve performance noticeably. You can use FRAPS [http://www.fraps.com/] to monitor your framerates if you want a way to compare your machine's performance between settings. A framerate consistently below 30 looks choppy to most people, obsessives like myself strive to hover around 60.

While the 8600gt is faster than the 6600, it's not a night-and-day difference. If a 6600 is the minimum GPU, then an 8600 won't be able to run the game well at full settings. If you do discover that the problem lies with the GPU, the Radeon 4830 [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102822] is a fantastic deal for $75.

Huh... it does run better but it still lags quite a bit with a few units on screen any way to fix that withought lowering unit detail

edit: also when i zoom into units the game become jaggy and my hardrive begins to make strange noises

I ain't tryin to run it a max medium will do for me and maybe high on a few options and i think you can actually get a 9800GT for around about $90 in US that would be around about £45 over here

If this article [http://www.dvhardware.net/article33885.html] is to be believed, less than 6 o_O

I doubt overall performance is that bad (15 FPS on a C2Q@4gHz+GTX280!?!), but it seems to be pretty CPU-bound in performance, so your Athlon might be holding you back as much as your GPU.

I have done! the main reason i am getting a new graphics card is i wan't better graphics

Does the graphic card have anything to do with how many units can be handled on screen?
