yes, 89% of parents believe that video games are a problem

biased poll is biased. 90% of americans dont agree on ANYTHING, but they agree on this issue? please. Also, if this many parents believe that video games are such a huge threat, the industry wouldnt be anywhere near as big as it is today.....
Statistics do seem very inaccurate. More like 89% of people who care enough about video game violence to participate in a survey on it believe that video game violence is a problem. Overall its a pretty damn useless study even if the statistics are accurate, just because parents think they are a problem doesn't mean they actually are a problem. I'm really sick of these bullshit and heavily flawed and biased to the point of pointlessness experiments that are passed off as 'studies' as if they actually have some kind of scientific or logical merit.

How many of those 89% know about parental controls available on consoles? How many actually know what the ESRB ratings actually mean? How many of those parents still allow their kids to play these games regardless?

It is true, violence in video games does promote violent tendencies, but ONLY for a period of a about 30 minutes immediately after playing. And this is simply because when in simulated combat (like an fps) our adrenaline goes up and we get into the "fight or flight mode" 30 minutes later we go back to being perfectly well adjusted individuals.

My mother says that video games have made me docile & wishes she'd bought me a console or at least some more Mac II games back in the 80s.

Well it sucks to live in that country of yours then.

If it isn't feminism, it's violent video games, and if it isn't that it's something else.

Damn I'm happy to be a Romanian and not have that bullshit.
I hear you. I'm, quite frankly, fucking sick of people making mountains out of molehills.

And who lets the underaged kids play these "violent" video games? The Parents. Seriously think how quiet CoD would be if it was only 18 years olds and ups playing it.

Sadly, yes. Most people in this country believe whatever crap people make up. Example, when Obama was first running for office and everyone was going on about how he was a socialist. None of those people even knew what a socialist was, they just saw it as "bad" and started repeating it.

OT:

They really need to include a "Do you play video games?" or "How often?" question to the beginning of these surveys/studies. Most the people that say that don't play them, like how most the people who were in favor of SOPA knew nothing about pirating, and the people screaming "ban assault rifles!" have no idea what an "assault rifle" actually is.

One of these billions of articles on game violence surmised my opinion:

Games can and do increase Aggression. Aggression however only turns into Violent Action if the person acts on the impulse. Thankfully the overwhelming majority of us do not act in impulse.
And here I was beginning to feel that I was alone with this viewpoint. Kudos.

It's not that Americans are stupid, I'm pretty sure if this was run in other countries you'd see similar results. PEOPLE are stupid, and everyone has an opinion to voice whether or not they're educated on it.

That school shooting people seem to have no trouble glossing over the kid and his mother were apparently pretty crazy, she thought 2012 was real and all that good stuff.

But hey, rock and roll were at fault, violent movies were at fault, now it's games, whatever guess we'll just have to wait till holograms are around for them to get the blame next.

Bullshit survey.

It's been said before, but America is so goddamn diverse that 50% of people would have a hard time agreeing on even the lightest controversies.

Most parents I know are reasonably aware that video games don't cause their kids to become school shooters. The ones that do are usually bible-thumping hardcore right-wing people, and I don't really take their opinions seriously.

And I'm pretty sure that more than 11% of American households have a violent video game in them.

Also, if even 1% of every kid who has played COD commited a school shooting or random act of violence, schools would be a much emptier place.

Alternate title for this thread: 11 percent of US parents have some basic level of intelligence.

Alternate alternate title: The majority of people decide it is easier to fear what they do not understand rather than think about it.

Alternate, alternate alternate: Dumb people surveyed, the hilarious results.

Fourth alt title: Knee-jerk reactionary idiots feebly attempt to blame unrelated tragedy on easy scapegoat.

Alt titles are fun, but this is just getting sad. Video games need an NRA type association to defend it from libel.
