So games made the kid lock himself in a bathroom to hang himself?

And the motive would be...what exactly? If you're having fun playing violent video games, why would you intentionally want to deprive yourself of any more video games? It's not like they're going to stop coming out.

What? Even if videogames were a
factor, shouldn't the parents be blamed for not enforcing opposite ideals from that of the videogames, or at least stopping the kid from
playing them (which it never even clarified he actually did)? Jesus fucking Christ it's anything but the parents' fault these days.

Also: what the hell happened to just diagnosing a kid with "depression" and moving on. All this nitpicking just makes it worse for the family.

Gaaah, why are people always blaming electronic mediums such as tv or video games when things like this are usually the fault of others or the offender? Maybe the kid was being bullied? I'll bet they never even bothered to look at that aspect.

I've been playing games since I was five and violent games since I was 11 (Unless you count various late '90s turn based JRPGs as violent), and yet I don't have the urge to go out and end my life or that of anyone else. Sure, I love to cause a little mayhem and destruction in a pixelated world, but I would gawk in horror at the idea of killing someone in real life (unless in self defense or to protect my friends and family).

This sucks because I live near the city this happened in.

Anyways, I think this is total bullocks. I should go down to that school and slap that "Doctor" with a brick.

I find it strange how they blame the kid committing suicide on video games where I don't think it's even depicted when you've got hundreds of TV shows and movies that way more people watch that show this sort of thing. Hell, even the Simpsons have a tonne of jokes about this sort of thing.

Oh of course let's not blame the parents or the school yard for this poor boy's demise. It must be the evil device that makes nasty things magically appear on the idiot box. Aye! Why must video games be the cause of all the bad things associated with children? And besides, this wind bag didn't even know this kid and didn't understand his situation. Why does she get to go around making judgement calls and diagnosis on something she knows nothing about? And what the hell does she even know about video games anyway? She's just another jackass pinning another tradgedy on video games, only this time she's a doctor and therefore must think that this makes her analysis concrete and undisputable.

Has anyone ever seen Penn and Teller's show 'Bullshit' on Shotime? There's one episode where they debunk the myth of video games and violence where they take child (11 years old or so) who plays violent videogames and bring him to a shooting range with a trained marksmen. They then hand him an AR15 assault rifle. He fires one shot and breaks down into tears. Awesome, and I highly recommend viewing it, I'll try and find it on youtube or some other site.

of course they dont want to blame the parents. But really the most important part of children growing up is the parents. Video games are violent we all play them but non of us actually think about suicide after killing some fools in mw2 or halo.

I believe that video games make kids commit suicide when a kid actually says in his note that he actually committed suicide because of games. Not some foolish psychologist blaming everything but the parents.

god these stories just piss me off. Blame whos actually at fault.

Its the media. Its not a question of truth, but what do people want to see/read. They want to make money, not be a reliant news source. This would be better if the media only told things that they knew for sure.

Many factors would have to contribute to a suicide, and I highly doubt that video games were a part of it.
I've got two Questions though, #1 Why was there no key to get into the bathroom that he locked himself in.
#2 Where did he learn to tie a noose.

She said he was watching T.V not playing video games. She also failed to mention if he had any, sounds like she has no link between the two, and is just using this to voice her opinion on that games are bad.

Wasnt video games, I dont commit suicide in video games or likely make others do so. If he did it by means of hurting someone else or himself violently perhaps. But he merely broke his neck and slowly suffocated himself, not a very popular theme in video games.
