So, I guess that ending means that Dead Island is coming up next. And that he didn't like it. What a shame; I was kind of hoping he'd appreciate the depth in the RPG elements...

I've played the Driver demo and it seems fun. Perhaps I'll get it once the price drops.
The last time Yathzee teased a negative review was for Kane & Lynch 2. That's all...

I think the one case of random repeated dialog that goes well is the Harbinger in Mass Effect 2. It continually says things like, "This hurts you," "Pitiful," "You cannot resist," "We fight as one," etc. etc. that lend it a Borg creepiness that's enhanced by the atmosphere. And since the Harbinger is the leader of a race
intellectually hamstrung by the Reapers,
it makes perfect sense that he'd be a little off and just say the same things over and over again.

A procedurally drawn racing game? I like that idea. I wonder if Notch could write a code that generates random roads in Minecraft.

Hah, yeah. Dead Island is fantastically by-the-numbers. "You got Borderlands in my Dead Rising 2!" "You got Dead Rising 2 in my Borderlands!" I got bored. Good to get back to basics with a lame game that initially had some good promise for Yahtzee to hate on in tomorrow's episode.

Why must you make me want games I can't afford? CURSE YOU YAHTZEE!
On the other hand, I can't wait to see what he says about Dead Island. All of my friends have been saying how awesome it is. I just can't get myself excited about zombie games unless it's Left 4 Dead.

That was both terrifying and funny... and now all I can think about is South Park's Sexual Harassment Panda.

Ugh, the constantly repeating, voiced lines point hits far too at home. I can think of a certain every single JRPG where the developers have had this indescribable need to fill in all the ambiance with noise or quips from the party members, though Western developers are certainly guilty of it too.

If you can't produce hundreds of lines of dialogue to fit in to random quips, then don't do it at all. I love Xenoblade, but your party members don't ever shut up in battle. They're practically trying to out-shout each other with the same exact lines of dialogue every time.

I must say I'm really enjoying hearing Yahtzee praise Driver SF. You generally expect him to hate everything, but he's fallen for a game that's so unusual for him to have done. And he's helping to show the world how much of an awesome and innovative game it really is. Such praise is hard earned from Yahtzee, so hopefully that really shows how great the game is.

Actually I was thinking recently that games have been getting better, at least in general. The games no one gives a crap about come and go within a week, with little remark. Meanwhile, there have been a lot of surprisingly good games coming out of the woodwork and some very intriguing ones seem to be waiting on the horizon.

Even creatively bankrupt gunwank modern shooters are at least more polished than they were before, so they are technically better.

If that's the worst games can get nowadays, I'm all over it.

-Though I know it can never last-

God dammit, I bought Dead Island yesterday. I had a feeling the next ZP would be Dead Island, it seemed like the next big high-profile game that he hadn't done yet.

Well of course he didn't like Dead Island. That game sucks on so many levels I don't know how he can mention everything that's wrong with it in 5 minutes.

Looping dialogue in boss fights is annoying... though I'm willing to forgive it when it's used to signal which attacks the boss is going to use next (a la No More Heroes).

Ooh, yikes, the foreshadowing is sinister indeed...

Some good points - points which I feel other reviews didn't think about too hard and used as negative points instead.

On the other hand I don't agree on the GTA IV part. It has it's merits too and doesn't necessarily promote failure, rather I see it as promoting diversity.
