As Falcon123 Posts (*like the Count from Sesame Street* ah, ha ha!), I guess Dead Island is next, and I thought he might like it. Maybe it's the lack of fun that should be coupled with surreal circumstances in a game. Well, it's one day away.

Well written Yahtzee. I tried this game after seeing your video, and it immediately connected. The funky soundtrack really works for me, and well as everything else you've pointed out here.

Mark your calendars! Yahtzee may actually *help* a game's sales for once!

Heh, I've been enjoying Dead Island quite a bit. Of course the characters are paper thin and the plot is about as irrelevant as what the characters ate for breakfast the day before the zombie outbreak. But the feeling of being up against an overwhelming horde of undead and the whole fight to survive style of gameplay are letting me kinda make the story my own. It's not the big rapper's story anymore, it's the story of what I did while playing as him that is important.

Just my 2 cents anyway. But I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out. Here's hoping that it's not an all out assault on the poor survivors trapped in Banoi. Haven't they been through enough? :p

Somewhat disappointed that Ben disliked Dead Island so much. I mean I figured he wouldn't like it, but not so much that he's hinting about it like he did with Kane & Lynch: Dog Days. Of course, I should be used to him disliking games I like (and liking games I dislike, Driver: SF for instance).

Of course, I don't think of his videos as reviews. They're more like comedy bits to me, and when he dislikes a game I like so much it's almost like your favorite comedian admitting to being a Jehovah's Witness or hardcore Republican.

I'm glad Yahtzee like the game. I've been teasing a friend of mine with the stupid mechanic for the better part of a year, but I understand it was the only way to make a driving game with the incredibly bad on-foot sequences that the Driver series somehow managed to screw up even worse than the GTA series.

I was also surprised when I played the multiplayer demo to see that all that PR talk about this feature being able to 'keep the flow going' and 'make a fast-paced exhilariating experience' was in fact 100% true.

"You could even do the Bionic Commando thing where there's a button for telling the boss character to shut the fuck up."

I might rent Bionic Commando just to use that feature.

I have always wanted for there to be a feature to tell a boss to shut up mid-annoying monologue or predetermined line. Even if it's to your detriment, you know that your character, no matter how subdued or stealthy he/she is, would eventually have to tell the guy to shut up already.

Haven't played Driver: San Franciso. Is the "silly cop TV show" atmosphere of the PC's coma dream ever contrasted against a more realistically-rendered "real" world?
Didn't hurt Life on Mars.

Actually I've known a few witticisms that have improved with repetition, we've even adopted a name for it "Repeat until funny" It does however demand that you say them in increasingly ridiculous and unopportune moments, playing them randomly will almost never achieve this.

uber annoying is the first shop in Dead island, he has the same BS every time and continues if you stay there to dupe farm developer weapon.

For me the MUSN'T is having only dialogue sequence/line for any situation. there's nothing dumber than having characters sounding like a button, especially if they are a button(as anyone doing the (dead island) continuous quests will confirm).

games need to learn to STFU or give me a damn dedicated STFU button already! Effectively it would skip any conversation sequence without silly onscreen prompt, and prevent repetitive character lines from being said.

This is a quote from frictional games' blog about a year ago
"So how has this affected the sales? Well it is obviously impossible to say what we would have sold with worse grades, but what we can do is to see what correlations there are between positive reviews and spikes in sales. It turns out there is pretty much none. The only correlation we managed to find was with combined release of the Zero punctuation and Gamespot reviews. These were out very close in time and almost quadrupled sales compared to the previous days before (about 150/day to 600/day). It even seems like this boost still remains."

Games Yahtzee likes sell a lot of copies.

"without characters, there's no motivation"

umm, how about playing the game for the actual game. Ever heard of chess or football.

Videogames =/= Chess

I play chess for the challenge. I replay ME1 thirty times, and it's not for the shooting.

And really, haven't you ever heard of football stars? They tend to create a lot of fans on their own.

Why must you make me want games I can't afford? CURSE YOU YAHTZEE!
On the other hand, I can't wait to see what he says about Dead Island. All of my friends have been saying how awesome it is. I just can't get myself excited about zombie games unless it's Left 4 Dead.
You serious? I can't get excited about zombie games unless its Dead Rising. Thats about as "to the point" as it gets when it comes to zombie killing.

L4D is just another arcady/coop online game. Just it happens to have zombies.
I know coop online games are the best kind of multiplayer game (I've been having fun with Killing Floor) but L4D really isn't anything spectacular, and I found its mechanics to be a bit to cookie cutter. The game isn't difficult enough for me & and not engaging enough.
Killing Floor has better gameplay but it doesn't have a narrative/campaign so even it is getting old fast.
