Cosplayer Crafts Terrifying Diablo Costume On A Budget

This Lord of Terror costume creation is one of the coolest you're likely to see, and it was made faster and cheaper than you'd probably expect.

<a href=http://www.amazon.com/Diablo-III-Pc/dp/B00178630A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323380447&sr=8-1>Diablo III's <a href=http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Diablo#Appearance_in_Diablo_III>Lord of Terror looks pretty darn scary in the trailer for the game. In real life the creature looks frightening as Hell (haha, Hell). A talented fan has created an epic costume that looks downright terrifying in low light - though it gets a bit of a downgrade when it's shown stalking around a driveway in daylight, next to the family pick-up truck, and just looks somewhat bizarre.

The costume was assembled by Oklahoma-based Blizzard fan <a href=https://twitter.com/#!/VisionArts_>Joshua Smith. You can actually see the progression video where he details the construction <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&src_vid=nV8mSd3PnQY&annotation_id=annotation_826896&v=LOon5kWkmyY>in a separate video. I'm not certain what Smith's background is when it comes to constructing costumes, but this guy is certainly talented. What's really impressive, though, is that the majority of the Lord of Terror was created fairly quickly and for very little money:

The entire upper half of the costume's body was constructed, assembled, and painted in the time frame of 8 days, each day working approximately 4 hours. About $145 has went into the materials, all of them being purchased from Walmart except for the black gloves (marching gloves) that were bought from a local music store.

...

MATERIALS USED:
Glue Sticks (2 Small Stick Packs, 3 Large Sticks Packs)
Aluminum Foil (37 ft Heavy Duty)
Poster Board (10 Sheets)
Craft Foam (4 Foam 12 Packs)
LED Lights (2 Batt. Operated Packs)
C Batteries (6 Pack and 4 Pack)
Paint (Black, Red, Orange, Yellow)
Clear Coat Spray (2 Cans)
Black Long Sleeve Shirt
Black Gloves (1 Pair)

Smith is planning to attend BlizzCon this year, so be sure to go up and give him some well-deserved kudos. Also, try not to pee your pants when he extends his arm to shake your hand.

That's pretty awesome! I'm always in awe of costumes like this - I completely lack the skills to make anything similar. Hope he has lots of fun and admiration at BlizzCon.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
It occurs to me that the new lord of terror looks really stupid. Pretty cool costume though but he probably should have gone with the d2 terror lord.

Don't you mean "next year"? This year's con is already over. Though I wish him luck, it takes a lot more than "planning to" when it comes to getting to BlizzCon. Only reason I've been able to go consistently for the past 4 years is because we have 10+ people in our guild all trying to get tickets. Every year I owe someone different the admission fee.

Crap! Where's my sword when I need it???

Seriously that is a impressive costume but I must wonder in the fist clip, did he put it on inside that room since there is no way he could of move out of the room without his horns things hitting the wall near the ceiling.

Yes, sorry. I meant next year. Thanks for catching that.

He didn't look like that last time I killed him!

Is Blizzcon poorly-lit? If so, he'll fit in perfectly.

That is.... extremely impresive. I wish I had the skills and inclination needed to do something like this.

I'm not sure if it's the source material or just the costume, but that monster looks stupid as hell. High heels and spikes out of the wazoo. Kudos for the effort, but despite the fairly good face (and impressive mouth-action), it looks silly and easily tipped-over.

Sweet costume. I was totally waiting for a hit by car gag at the end of that video. :)

*Darth Vader voice* Impressive...most impressive.

I'm amazed he could create something like this with as little money and time as he did. Kind of like "Design on a Dime" but with a geeky bent.

*looks back at what I just said* "Design on a Dime" with a geeky bent...I believe he may have a future TV career here.

To the creator of the costume: Well done, you put your talents to good use and made an accurate costume. I applaud you on a job well done and hope to see more from you.

To the creator of the character: What were you thinking, that is the worst possible design you could have made. I may not play diablo, but I can tell you I would laugh if something like that attacked me in real life. His "armor" is entirely impractical and won't actually stop any real attack, and the ornaments on top will only make him easy to topple, therefor easier to kill.

I don't undertand the appeal of impracticality in fantasy. Just because you're a demon lord or a woman, doesn't mean you can't think before putting on a stupid piece of armor.
