This seems to be the case with just about every RPG I've ever played. I'll get right to the end, burn out on sidequests and exploration, then move on to something else.

I do end up finishing most of them, though.

When I got the original Mario Kart for the SNES, I got gold in all championships except the 150cc Special Cup. I couldn't get it back then no matter how hard I tried. I picked it up again after over a decade break and got gold the first time through. Satisfying.

Also, a lot of RPGs get frustratingly hard towards the end. Western ones especially. In Baldur's Gate you get killed all the time throughout the game. Then it gets harder.

I very nearly finished all of Fallout 3 and it's expansions (in that, I have all but one achievement). I gave up looking for ingots in the Pitt. Never did get that sweet Tribal Power Armor. Not that I needed it I suppose - even with official content I had plenty of better choices. Hell, the best power armor in the game could be had easily enough simply by beating the first bit of DLC.

I think the tribal power armor was worth it just for the ap boost it gave. I agree the ingots are rediculous, I had to use a guide to get them all. It's also redic annoying that they have weight so you have to keep shuttling them back to the guy to trade them in.

I got stuck at the final boss. The final boss everyone says is super easy and they all beat him first go.
Screw everyone else, I couldn't.

This too. I got my younger sister to play it for me. I also got her to finish Assassin's Creed 1 for me as well. In both those AC and Oblivion I started to lose interest midway but she, somehow, doesn't. I find it baffling

Same game, the reason being I told it to go fuck itself when it wanted me to sail around looking for 8 Triforce pieces.

thats how many games i have beaten 99% of the way but then stop right before the final boss and never touch it again.

Yup! All 151 in Blue. Then I decided I wanted to start a new game, got Mt. Moon and got bored. Haven't seen my Blue cartridge since.

GTA IV. More or less got to the final mission, just stopped playing and forgot about it. Eventually traded it in for the PS3 version and I did the same thing again. I will get back to it though. One day.
There's a few others including Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia and Far Cry 2 but GTA IV annoys me the most because I was having lots of fun but just kinda forgot about it.

FFXII - Was at the last boss then decided to go back and get all the powerful weapons and armor and stuff... haven't played that game in over a year.
Area 51 - Was pretty close to the end and just stopped.
The Godfather - Again, close to the end and just lost interest in it.

I haven't completed Arkham Asylum. There's just one thing I can't find. In Shadow Complex I have the same problem.

I caught 'em all in Pokemon Blue. In fact, I even used a glitch to catch Lugia and Tyranitar in my Blue version, although they're just glitches with placeholder sprites until you trade them to Gold/Silver.

After that, though, I didn't manage to 100% any other games. I've gotten close in generations 2 and 3, but those damned event-only legendaries are getting me down...

I probably shouldn't say this, but I've never even come close to beating a Pokemon game. I always get to the third or so gym in Diamond, and think "Ugh, this is getting tedious. I'm bored." and I stop playing. Please don't kill me, Marter.

I've come close, on 4th gen!

I only have Deoxys, Shaymin, Darkrai and Arceus to go, and I've never hacked - I really want RBY, as they sound ridiculously easy in comparison to what I've done.
