I decided to try Baldurs Gate 2, I started the tutorial, got to the part where you climb the stairs and it auto-saves. I finally get into the game and find that when I die my auto-saves just reload the point to the tutorial where I climb the stairs. I've tried deleting it, didn't work, I've tried saving over it, didn't work. This game has some bullshitty monster encounters, has anyone else encountered this and managed to fix it?

Try going to the save directory and deleting it from there.

EDIT: The save folder will be in your install directory. [small]Sorry if you already know this but PC gaming newbies sometimes don't think to check there... they just know games to save in the "My Documents" folder.[/small]

There's a mod you can download that skips the starter irenicus dungeon, with the option of getting certain items and people + experience for having done said things

I was so happy when I found it, for someone like me who's played that game over and over so many times I couldn't even remember how many

DungeonBeGone? I think? Something like that

When in doubt reinstall?
Not an option, I refuse to lose 5+ hours of gameplay to a glitch.
If you go the reinstall route if you can make "real" saves that work, just copy your working save file and stick it back into the save directory after reinstall.

There's a tutorial? Hmm... (loads up BG2) Well what'dya know, there is one!

Or do you mean the infamous 'chateau Irenicus', otherwise known as the starting dungeon? Because if you're feeling confident in your abilities you can skip the tutorial and go straight to the game, it starts off fairly kindly and you could pick up the rest as you go along.

I actually don't use the Auto-Saves though, keep in mind this is a ten year old game. Auto-save, while common on consoles, was never really prominent in PC gaming, relying instead on the good ol' quicksave mechanic. Q button, if I recall correctly. Or was it G? One of those two.

And yes, some of the monster encounters can get downright brutal later on in the game. I still have nightmares about Mind Flayers and Vampires... oh gods, the memories... Minsc just got his brain eaten, and Aerie got level drained so I can't resurrect him. Worst of all, I'M OUT OF RESTORATION SCROLLS!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Ahem.. on further reading though you're playing through the main game and yet it always reloads you into the tutorial? Odd. No, I've never gotten that. Can't you simply load your main game through the menu though?
