I love RPGs and turn-based strategy games... (read: Fallout & X-COM). Above all, I enjoy games that have loads of depth and customization options. I love crunching numbers, min/maxing characters, and planning out my attacks to the smallest detail....

But you might not want to listen to me, as I seem to be a dying breed....

A good browser-based RTS. Hex Empire is okay but there isn't much depth.

I love plattforming and 2-D style side scrolling. That's one of the reason I love Gameboy games, old school games and LBP.

I love games like Abe's Oddysey, such a good plattformer with puzzle elements, clever story, creature interaction...awww I could talk about it all day long.

So what aspect of game design are you into? Do you have one area of specialization (i.e. level design, art, etc.) or do you handle everything yourself?

I like this one

For me games come down to three criteria story, gameplay, and music In that order. Now depending on the game some of these can be forgiven for example I don't expect a fighting game to have an fantastic story but it must have good gameplay. When I say music I mean a soundtrack that dosen't make me want to claw my eyes out or isn't incredibly generic. If it includes all of these I don't really care what genre it is.

Me?

I like the format of RPG's and adventure games. If you could find some way to combine the two I would be intrugiued.

As far as RPG's go, I'm not opposed to number heavy crunchy systems but personally I'm far more interested in the story. Seriously, get as many monkeys on typewriters as you need and make sure you have an interesting story before anything else. Focus on:
  • Interesting and unique characters, your characters should be memorable and all have their own personalities. Avoid an Oblivion 'world of clones' at all cost.

Non-derivative plot. We've done Space Marine and Brave WWII Soldier and Epic Fantasy Warrior to death. Think of a setting that, even if it's been done before, hasn't been done for a long time or isn't done often.

Surprise us, good story twists and mysteries are appreciated. Also, you shouldn't explain ALL of the mysteries, leave a few things for us to think of on our own.

What I'd like to see stop in games are pointless quick time events and gimmicky physics tools. Only use them if you've well integrated them into the game play and they're actually fun to use. For example: Gravity gun from Half-Life 2? Fun. Terrain modifier thing-ey from Fracture? Obnoxious, being forced to use it only seemed to break the flow of the game for me.

Also, don't focus on hyper-realistic graphics. At this point in time no matter how close you get it'll still look obnoxious and fake thanks to the uncanny valley. Also, games with the newest and shiniest graphics tend to be buggier and require insane super-powered space computers that MOST PEOPLE DON'T HAVE. It'll be easier to develop the game, have fewer bugs, and grant you a larger potential market if you take a step or two back from the graphical cutting edge.

If you feel you have to do SOMETHING to make your game more 'realistic' then I'd like objects that actually behave like, you know, REAL OBJECTS. What I mean is look at Half-Life 2, despite its cool physics engine models still clip into each other, you'll still get four or five dead monsters somehow piled INSIDE of each other, if you pick up something the wrong way the engine freaks out and the object goes all spazzy, etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is instead of making things REALISTIC LOOKING make them BEHAVE BELIEVABLY.

That applies to characters also.

Also, as an aside. Me being the massive furry fan that I am (*dodges thrown tomatoes*), I appreciate well made anthropomorphic characters in games. Bonus points if you have them side-by-side in a universe with humans also and you DON'T have them being antagonistic to one another.

That's about it for now, I guess.

I'm waiting for a truly good platformer. So long as the developer doesn't dick up the level design and "jump" button they can do whatever they want after that.

As a guy who has made his own video game and is slowly working on another, I can assure you that the best game to make is the one you want to play, not the one you think the greatest number of other people want to play. Unless you're passionate about it, it's pretty much destined to be shit.

It's a freeware retro adventure called "The Vacuum." You can get it here [http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=1066].
