A Chinese fps game was just released on Steam and it already has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews.

The game is called Bright Memory. It's an fps game that combines adrenaline-filled game play of DOOM 2016, accompanied by kick-ass melee system, amazing soundtrack, and gorgeous graphics. And it was made by one person, Zeng Xiancheng. The game is getting "overwhelmingly positive" reviews, and having played it myself, I have to agree.

The game is indirectly putting so much shame on Fallout 76. Bethesda failed as a whole team with that garbage, yet we have an amazing talent like Mr. Zeng there.

Now keep it mind this game is still in early access, and the only language available is Chinese w/ Eng sub. There are also bugs and glitches here and there, gameplay isn't polished to perfection, but that is to be expected from a game in an early stage. The fact that this guy was able to create such an amazing game is impressive

I just love these 1-person development stories, like Stardew Valley and Voices of a Distant Star

Its built on assets. Thats not a condemnation or anything, just kind of a brief checknote there. You can see most of the identical animations in that one Hexen-cloney looking game B-Cell was hyping for a bit (Witch something?), or straight in the inspiration (and maybe the source of the asset pack) in Shadow Warrior.

Yeah, because making a short linear FPS is actually the same thing as making a persistent, open world, multiplayer roleplaying game with several interlocking gameplay systems intended to be played indefinitely. I am not defending Fallout 76 in any way, because that game is a disaster, but it is disingenuous in the extreme to compare a small game with a tight focus to an incredibly large game with a wide focus on player choice.

I wonder how long it took one person to do this, and how much was actually made from the ground up.

In any case, it?s a truly exceptional achievement.

Most Steam reviews are fake. Just like Twitter followers and YouTube subscribers. You can buy them in bulk. Ever wonder how PewDiePie jumps up 1million subs in a split second, or how a game only 11 days old has almost 5000 reviews, all positive, none with gameplay time longer than 2 hours?

If I don't bad remember, that's one of the main points Jim Sterling has made. The AAA developers try to be too wide on their focus, and end up losing it (with disastrous consequences); while indie developers can make more engaging games by focusing in one aspect and polish it. If the AAA developers don't realize this, they'll keep making the same mistake again and again and again...

OT: Cool trailer. Can't wait to see actual gameplay from the release version.

When something like "overwhelmingly positive" is written in "quotation marks" it is "incredibly difficult" to not read the words in a "sarcastic tone." Just an observation.

"You're welcome"

Yeah I thought this thread was going to be about a Chinese asset flip pushed up the ranking by bots or something.
Same. Was expecting a Jim Sterling-esque shady developer controversy wading in here. Internet coverage of steam quality control does inevitably take its toll.

(Punctuated the sentence for you. The first time's free...)

It's a 30 minute game. Thanks, but no thanks. I can get a 30 minute blowjob for $8. Somewhere...probably. With a free STD most likely, but a blowjob nonetheless.

Ask if they have an STD and see if there is a discount or a coupon.

Either get a condom or a black Hefty trash bag. I wouldn't buy this yet until the guy is finished developing the game. I don't mind this on steam, but this a game that should also get to consoles too.

Bright Memory, huh? I personally would like if Bright was removed from my memory.

Hahaha, get it?

Why are we comparing a linear and short FPS to a multi-player, open-world game? This feels like comparing apples and oranges.

It looks decent though. I wouldn't buy it not on sale, because it just looks like DOOM with anime.

This actually reminds me a whole lot of Titanfall 2.

Anyway, looks... ok? Not my cup of tea unless I can get it for super cheap.

That just means it IS your cup of tea but YOU'RE just cheap.

If a game... being cheap is what makes it your cup of tea.
