A completely automated war?

I've been playing SupCom a lot recently, and I've asked myself this question: Is it possible to wage war without the human variable involved? A war against machines and and machines only? What do you think?

Speculative fiction gave us "I Have No Mouth And I must Scream" as a possible outcome. It's most unlikely we'll ever build a computer that large or powerful, but it's stil a nice read.

Yes, but then you get to the point of thinking 'What is the point?' apart from damage to the economy. I mean, if there's no emotional cost, why bother? People just won't care.

I think what we need is a good alien invasion to unify us all.

And even THEN there will most likely be people fighting over how to fight the invaders.

Machines are too easily hacked or broken. Plus, EMP weaponry will sort that out as well.
