Dear escapists, I am going to enlist your aid if your willing to give it.
Now I am pretty experienced with PCs and know a fair bit about programming however I cannot explain the recent behaviour of my PC's windows explorer. Every so often the desktop part of my explorer fails - with the start bar and all other parts working. The problem is simply fixed by doing actrl+alt+delete for task manger then going to processes and then killing it and then restarting it in run. However the problem keeps persisting and I was wondinging if anyone had any ideas!

Sounds like some sort of corrupt file or perhaps a virus. Does it happen after/while you are at/have been to a certain website?

Actually, I have run in to a similar problem when I plug a certain thumb drive into my computer. Windows Explorer has a fit and gets stuck in a loop of crashing... as you can imagine, it's very annoying. Whoever said that Windows continues to work better with each new generation of the software is a good b.s. artist. Remember with XP they said you'd never have to restart your computer again? Ironic how I believe the first update for the system required a restart...
I don't know that a virus could actually cause WE to crash. I suspect it is possibly more along the lines of malware instead. Whatever the case, I'd say do plenty of anti-virus and anti-malware scanning, and cross your fingers that you don't need to re-install. Good luck claymorez!
