while what the other guy said about DFO not getting an update to the website is totally true (though oddly its the only game to not get any kind of update), same with customer service. (though I've never had to deal with them)

It's a totally unreasonable grind for even a basic gear upgrade at lvl 54 and up. the mats are ether hard to get, you need an unreasonable amount of them, or it takes one of something with a drop rate of 'non existent'.

It is every bit as fun as it looks, and it does a good job of making feel like a total bad ass at any level (more so when you get your Trans and just start ripping bosses apart) when you figure out how your character works, but yeah, unless you know the secret to making billions (or find a gold seller that isn't a scam), you'll be doing a lot of grinding for crafting supply's.

OT:

sorry OP, can't help ya the MMO i've been playing is still in closed beta, and Nexon is making me not want to get back into Vindictus, and i fucking loved that game

If your PC is of the strain that can run Crysis 3 on ultra settings at 120fps, then you may consider Planetside 2.

Actually, if your PC can run most recent PC titles on normal settings at more than 30fps, youll be better off than i am.

Just a tip, if you live in Europe, download the game through Steam, do not download from the European site. Youll be happier for it.

Well there you go then, give GW2 a shot.

From my experience people's definitions of "grindy" vary by such a HUGE amount it isn't even funny. Some don't have the attention span of a flea on coffee and will call anything a grind, others can do the same task for hours/days and still stay entertained.

Sooo you won't really know till you give it a shot...and GW2 is one of those games that has overall excellent feedback from the majority of players. You can obvious dig up the gameplay/review videos, countless amounts of those :S

It's definitely a different experience compared to WoW/SWToR, I'll tell you that right now. Combat is way different (reactive/proactive based), dungeons can get very challenging right off the bat, the gear customization is nothing short of insane.
My best advice for GW2 is take your time, play with a friend (there are MANY incentives to play along with a friend, your XP doesn't get cut in half or something stupid like that) and don't rush! The game rewards and encourages exploration and the environments are nothing short of breath-takingly splendid.

NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Speaking as someone that's played Vindictus, it's hosted by Nexon.

Need I really say more? It's NEXON.

The game itself may be okay, but God help you if you run into a problem of any kind that can't be solved with the help of other players, like Nexon banning you for no particular reason like they did after 3 different updates (This also happened on most of their other games like Dungeon Fighter Online as well.) tickets take 3 months upward in order to get answered and frankly, I'd suggest anyone except Nexon and OGPlanet in terms of service providers game wise, as one of Nexon's games has gone without an update for approximately half a year.

AND NO I DON'T JUST MEAN PLAYABLE CONTENT UPDATE.

Group of people have gone as far to post child pornography on those forums to get some type of information about what the state of the non-updated game is just to get help. That should tell you right there why you should stay away from Nexon.

OT: Tera Rising, Hawken, El Sword, Rusty Hearts.
Although I hate the OGPlanet hub launcher, considering that the only OGPlanet game I play is Latale, I haven't really run into many problems that required outside assistance. The worst I got was an access violation error which was solved by hooking up my comp to the ethernet versus using the wireless. Maybe I am not one to talk since I haven't really had any problems that required serious assistance like hacked accounts and what not, but in my experience (roughly 4 years), OGPlanet hasn't caused me any real grief (Although being roughly a year behind the Korean version kind of stinks.)

OT: If you like 2D side-scrollers, then I'd recommend LaTale. It's a pretty fun game, the people seem to be mostly nice, and another plus is that you can get pretty much any item from the cash shop with in game money, provided you can find someone who is selling the item, so even poor players(such as myself) wont have to be dependent on micro-transactions to get special items in the game provided that they can make a decent amount of in-game money. Oh, and a really big update is coming on the 28th, which will from what I have seen, fix the questing system making it so that questing is actually a viable and realistic means to level up, give you enough potions so that you don't have to drop a small fortune to re-pot every time you go through your potion supply, as well as provide a useful amount of money proportionate to your level. And they will also move the first job advance from level 80 to 50, the second from 140 to 100, and the special sub-class stays at 140 I believe. Basically, it is getting a huge overhaul for the better and if you are into 2D side-scrolling mmorpgs, then this is definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

secondly. check out the secret world. it is pretty much what the real world would have looked like if hayao miyazaki and tim burton got to design it. it's modern day realistic surrealism, fun fun fun.

The one Ive been playing lately is a free to play fantasy based MMO called RaiderZ. The game advertises itself as a monster hunting MMORPG and there are huge monsters you can (and will have to) fight. However I dont think thats a worthy title for the game although Im not sure what I would put in its place. So instead let me tell you about the game

RaiderZ is a spatial combat system similar to Dark souls. You can attack and have your swings hit multiple targets, dodge attacks, block attacks, etc. In fact dodging at the right time is crucial to success in many boss fights. Since its a spatial combat system and not based around targeting mechanics like wow or ToR you can literally solo just about anything in the game but just like dark souls bosses are extremely difficult. Soloing bosses (even doing certain bosses in group fights) are marathons, not races. Like dark souls the game is based around avoiding and/or mitigating as much damage as possible while getting your own damage into the monster. If you want to stand there and just swing away, well this isnt the game for you.

The game has four classes to choose from. Defender which is your basic tank. Berserker which is your melee dps. Cleric which is the standard support character. Sorcerer which is your semi-ranged dps class. There is also an assassin class in the works but I know nothing about it at this time. The nice thing about RaiderZ class system is you dont have to be stuck to one class either, you can make a hybrid or you can dip into a few skills that assist your style of play. For example my Defender finds a few instant cast sorcerer skills to be vital for catching quick aggro. There are also many defenders and berserkers that dip into cleric skills for more survivability or to counteract down time. As a note, clerics are particularly difficult to play at times because you are very limited in your mana reserves. If your group does badly the cleric is going to run out of energy very fast. Players that eat every hit are liabilities. Even so everyone makes the occasional mistake and clerics are there to help people survive a few screw ups, not spam heal someone to victory

The fights with giant boss monsters is where the game really shines though. Each one has some unique mechanics and forces each player to hone their skills. Look up a few fights with the following names and see what I mean. Viva, Bolas, Chimera, Yillis, Rivuite, Gember, and Poluto. There are three dungeons, each with an epic setting for level 35 (the level cap will be increased to 40 along with new content added "soon"). These dungeons include the Contaminated Garden (15-18) Catacombs (17-20ish) and Monastery (28ish-35). Each of these locations changes slightly in the epic versions and some bosses have tweaked mechanics and/or new attacks. In some cases you can literally damage parts of a bosses body so they can no longer use specific attacks, weaken them in some way, give you a weapon (break the Chimera's horn and you can literally pick it up and use it as a weapon against it), or provide you with more/better loot.

In the case of epic dungeons every day there is a daily quest where it gives you 3 "keys" in which you can use at any time. These keys are used when you enter an epic but they dont disappear. So if you wanted to stockpile 100 keys for Epic catacombs you could. if you dont feel like running a dungeon a certain day, no big deal, save the keys for another day when you want to do multiple runs. For normal dungeons there is no limit to how many times you can run it in one day.

The games weapon/armor system works much like monster hunter where you must gather individual pieces and craft your gear. Generally green or uncommon and white or common gear can be easily obtained without the need for "epic" monster parts. However for rare arms and armor you have to beat the boss monsters by yourself or with a group. If you want a full set of armor multiple kills will be needed but since the giant boss monsters are the best part its never felt like a grind to me (I define grind as doing something over and over and over again but not being fun and fighting those boss monsters certainly is fun for me). One red herring I have with some epic monsters is a few require some kind of bait which is easily obtained but they have 2 hour cooldowns. Generally this means you build a 5 man group, everyone uses their bait once, and the whole group walks away with a lot of parts to sell or make stuff with. However bait does not apply to every epic boss monster, there are a couple early on which you can fight as many times as you want without limit.

The bad parts about raiderz...well the big one for me is the PVP. Some people love the PVP but I hate PVP based around stun locking. It is possible for you to hit someone once and then completely shut them down and kill them without the chance for them to retaliate. That isnt fun to me, but I know some people like it. The enchanting system is also pretty borken IMO, you can increase the base stats of your weapons/armor but right now its useless to go beyond +3 and going past that almost requires items from the cash shop especially when you try to go from +7-+9 which literally can break your weapon/armor if it fails. Finally even with all the epic monsters and the three epic dungeons I feel like the games lacking in end game content and it may get worse with the new content thats on the horizon (or it could get better I have no idea).

There some good and bad stuff but at the end of the day its a free to play game and you should try it out. What do you have to loose?

Out of all the free to play mmorgps I've played, the only ones I could ever stick with for any length of time was TERA, and star trek online.

Most other free MMOs like Vindictus, and Lord of the rings online, either have stupid grind, just to level up, or in Lord of the rings case, require stupid grind in order to get turbine points in order to access more content.

Besides those two games, guild wars, and guild Wars 2 are also good, but they are buy to play, not free to play, so I don't know if you would count those.

I'm not sure if it's out yet but you might want to check out Age of Wushu. If you check out a lot of F2P mmos you'll know that Chinese mythology themed games are a dime a dozen, but this one warranted a look from me with it's traveling system, which includes floaty jumps, wall running, gliding, etc. like Wushu movie.

It also apparently bills itself as a sandbox game, which should definitely get your attention if you're tired of standard themepark MMORPG endgame raids (though from what I can gather in this game it means there's a player driven economy, open world PVP, and a territory struggles for guilds to partake in).

I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say if it's any good. Combat animations look great, but in action kind of looks fairly standard for an MMORPG.

Does anyone know if DCU online is worth getting?
It's free, so go for it. It's actually a lot of fun, you reach max level pretty fast and it's more or less a blast the whole way through, especially if you participate in open world PVP while you level. The combat is mostly an active affair too and feels great, more akin to a beat 'em up than an RPG. The end game is just sort of meh though - once you hit the max level the real grind of getting the best armor sets in, and then you're just stuck queuing up for instanced dungeons and raids the whole time. Some people will also say that the character creation is lackluster for a superhero game, and it is, but it's more varied than what you get at character creation since you earn new costumes pieces from loot as you progressive.

I'd also recommend Champions Online for their costume creator, but only if you can put up with Perfect World's obsession with lockboxes.

I'd reccomend Star trek online. It's really nice looking, and has plenty of story based content to play through, that you can do with a team or solo. I shaln't lie, it does have timegated system, but that's only for special items and you don't encouter that untill you've reached the level cap. You can also earn the in-game premium currency at an average speed. Unfortunately , it is owned by Perfect World now, and there are lockboxes, but they are easy enough to ignore.

Going to throw my hat into the TERA Rising ring.

Thoroughly enjoy the combat mechanics, love the artistic and aesthetic style, story is interesting. Recently Free To Play.

Mind you, this is all very subjective. I am having a blast. You may not.

TERA has an....... interesting story.

It's like if the Borg had Tron style neon light fashion, and invaded middle earth.

At least the final arc with the Argon is.

I'm really enjoying Tera right now. Elin master race and all.

It's very much the same grind that WoW is to level, but the combat is keeping it interesting for me.

GW2 is the best MMO I've ever played. Fluid combat mechanics with DAoC style server vs server PvP, it is also the first MMO I've experienced (having tried DAoC, WoW, WAR, Aion and SWTOR) in which I actually like the PvE, especially fractals of the mists, probably because combat is genuinely complex and the game doesn't pidgeon-hole you into one bland repetitive class role. Could not recommend the game more.

Also, Planetside 2 is an excellent MMOFPS, between those two games my gaming appetite is totally satisfied. $60 for hundreds upon hundreds of hours of entertainment.

While I agree that Nexon is rather horrid in customer relations and technical support their games are a TON of fun.

OT: Mabinogi is a great game, Vindictus is awesome, Dungion fighter online is a great experience though it's cash shop is more than a little pushy.

Planetside 2 may get a ton of flack on it's forums, honestly I have never had the misfortune of meeting a more entitled group of people ever, but the game itself is solid and the Devs are always coming out of left field with new ideas to implement. Only problem is that its technical requirements are kind high. It is currently my greatest timesink.

Honestly, every MMO that isn't WoW simply plays like a list of reasons why every MMO that isn't WoW sucks. Worse auction house, worse dungeon/raid content, worse class balance/viability, more bugs/more gamebreaking bugs, and most importantly, nowhere near the number of updates or quality of updates. The $15 that goes to WoW almost never feels like it's being "wasted," what with the content they put out every patch being top caliber. Raid quality is hit or miss, but usually only one raid per expac is a total bomb (togc in wrath, dragon soul in cata) with the rest of them being pretty good or amazing.

Also, as much as some dipshits rag on add-ons "ruining" the gaming experience, WoW is made far more playable because you *can* edit everything about it. The layout of your UI, timers, cooldown bars/icons, raid windows, threat charts, damage charts, addons that track who died to what mechanic so your raid can improve, etc. When a MMO hits and the company says "no player made mods are allowed," they're basically saying "our game is 100% perfect and nothing anyone can do can improve it even slightly." Because no game, particularly in the MMO market, is perfect, all that serves to do is reduce the potential quality of their game. Even recent titles like Guild Wars 2 (an awful grindfest with no endgame content aside from grinding karma/gold for legendaries) and ToR (a half-hearted attempt to make a story-driven PvE experience, except because it's a MMO the moral choice system is even more out of place than it usually is and bioware hasn't put out a single content patch in over a year, so "stale" doesn't even begin to describe the gameplay) could massively benefit from player-made addons to improve the dodgy UI or functionality (Guild Wars 2's range-detection system is fucking awful, for example - a tiny bar at the bottom of a skill will turn red or black depending on if your client thinks you're in range, but the change from red to black or vice versa is hard to notice and really out of the way, where a player mod could easily have the entire skill icon dim out when out of range).

Basically, when it comes to the MMO market, millions are all playing 1 game for a reason. It's objectively less shit than all the competition, and when a game comes out with 1 new or interesting idea, Blizzard often plucks it and rolls it into the next big WoW patch. And no other game comes close to the amount of money that's thrown at it, and it shows - when Cata launched with WoW, two entire continents were redesigned with new quest chains and a completely new skin, simply so flying mounts could be used in the vanilla WoW areas. No other dev would have the balls to put so much money into an update of "old" content, and they did it because they knew how dated/shitty the zones were - despite being costly both in terms of money and man-hours, it was worth it to improve the game. When a game like Rift or Tor has a shitty zone, you can pretty much guarantee it'll never get updated. And Guild Wars 2 is pretty much 90% shitty samey zones with buggy karma hearts and dynamic events, with no world continuity and loading screens between every zone. That game seriously feels like it belongs firmly in last decade, or even in the 90s - WoW has flying mounts that allow you to zip across entire continents with no loading screens, so there's not really an excuse for GW2 to have them in such abundance. Then again, both the PvE and PvP content is awful, unengaging, uninspired, and grindy, so all things considered loading screens aren't even the biggest problem Guild Wars 2 has.
