Today I stumbled across a little gem called Mount and Blade...I downloaded the demo and fell in love...I was just wondering if anyone else had ever heard of this game. It slipped under the radar. I think it could be the best game I have played in a long time...

I think the proper term is "a diamond in the through"

Anyways, yeah, I've heard of it, I've been meaning to get the demo off of Steam for a while now...

I'm pretty sure it's not "Through" - but hey, w/e

also, I have yet to DL the mount and blade demo but I always see people playing it on Steam, but my Diamond in the Rough vote goes to Valkyria Chronicles. Poor thing decided to come out during the times of Call of Duty 4 and other big games and it sold very shitty in the US. It did fine in the other wonderful places of the world but in the US, it was pathetic.

EDIT: Got the dates wrong - look farther down.

Err.. Call of Duty 4 came out in 2007. Valkyria Chronicles just came out on November 4th of this year.

Not to mention Valkyria Chronicles is a PS3 exclusive and Call of duty 4 came out on 3 systems (Xbox, Ps3, NDS) and both Windows and Macintosh. So it obviously wouldn't sell as many copies. Although the game did very well in Japan, the PS3 in general does quite a bit better in that country then in the U.S., so that follows suite as well.

Oh, my mistake. Anyway, my point is still that it's a diamond in the rough.

-and holy shit it came out Nov. 4th this year - no wonder it did bad. Heck it did worse against other PS3 games. I think I'm gonna cry.

Yeah I've been playing Mount and blade ever since v.7ish its amazingly good. I gave up when the updates becomes so frequent it killed the excellent mod community.

There were pirate, war of independence, civil war, caveman, spectacular LOTR (best lotr game ever made imho)and zombie mods. All richly unique and exciting.

I'll wait till after my supplementary exam to play it again though, already almost failed once.

Mount and Blade is just awesome. Doesn't get much better. Finally a game where the weapons make sense, where mounted combat works in a good way (not just ride up to enemy and stand still and whack them), and where combat is actually fun.

Valkyria Chronicles, I love ye.

It really reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics, the greatest Final Fantasy game ever.

Uuurm...

So what is Mount n' Blade? Is it RPG? FPS? RTS? Does it feature Wesley Snipes at all?

It's "rough". It refers to an uncut, unpolished diamond, which is quite ugly, and really looks a lot like a regular stone, albeit somewhat shiny. But with a little work it becomes a valuable gem. As for the game, yah, I've been seeing the demo on Steam, but I have no idea what it's like and my disc space is getting to be a premium commodity.

It was elements of all but the last one. And you can probably create him with the customisation thingymajong. Beat that.

Ok(assuming you've played a total war game, if not forget M&B and get a total war game...) it's a lot like the total war games except it's an rpg and you are a soldier in the battles and the battles are MUCH smaller...hard to explain. Just plain fun. except for the all too frequent bandits and such...
