I don't know if people in other countries than the U.S.A have the same amount of crap programming that we do, so this is directed at my comrades, Americans.

People constantly complain about how t.v isn't being creative anymore, and I'd agree with it. It's a sitcom about two room mates who are total opposites,or a reality show (think Jersey Shore)or a cop show, and it sucks. It sucks a nut. But when shows do try something original, it usually never gets past it's first season without being shot down. I admit, I've stopped watching shows like Supernatural and Fringe to watch Law and Order, and I don't doubt other people have too. So here's the question;

Are we hypocrites? Do we complain about how nothing is original, but when it is we become alienated by it?

Is it really the industry's fault?

Well just since you are addressing Americans I will give my view of TV and state I am not American so if you wish you can discount me. I actually like to watch shows like Fringe and Heroes. Sure they are hard to follow if you jump in half way through but if you start watching them at the beginning they are amazing shows. Although the latter has become kinda bad with more silly plot twists than a JRPG.

Ummh, industry is always consumer driver (in the entertainment market,) somebody watches that stuff.

I personally don't watch TV other than checking the news and weather every morning.

Glade I absolutely love Fringe, I'm saying that sometimes I take to watching cop shows instead. I like the original shows, but I like the mainstream ones just a little bit more.

I don't watch cable. Disconnecting it to be rid of those ads was one of the best decisions I ever made.

But from what I can tell, maybe you just aren't watching the right shows?

Try Breaking Bad or The Wire. Those are both compelling shows.

Maybe its because the majority of the people actually enjoy those kind of shows which goes to say a lot about the the population. Not assaulting America here, it goes for any country really, I'm surprise how my local "American Idol" rip off survived so long, it was fangirl galore with androgynous singers who can't really sing but they at least look pretty right?

I know I do watching things like 2 and A Half Men and other things that are mainstream and popular as most of them are very good but sometimes I do need a break from them which is why I am glad there are programs like Fringe.

Heroes got axed :)

About damn time, IMO. First season was good, sharply downhill from there.

Having a character that can never die is not good for building suspense. We just don't care.
Well I can't say I feel bad it was axed it had gotten very stupid I just wanted to watch it to the end of the last series that was on to see it through to the end. Way to many people ended up being related and interlinked making it way to complicated.

One of the only TV shows I've ever gotten into is NCIS. All the other sort of 'procedural' or forensics shows bug the piss out of me, but NCIS has a tone altogether different from the rest of the pack. That, and the acting is very good.

The only thing that really bothers me is how quick they are to resort to plots where NCIS and another group, usually the FBI, work at cross-purposes, and they always make the other org. look like bad guys, are at least like big jerks. That happens, and there's nothing wrong with doing it once in a while, but they seem to do it really often.

to be honest, i feel that the US is lacking a sketch comedy show (not that comedy central crap). something like the chasers war on everything, or trigger happy TV.
