Hey, I am new around here, and I joined basically for this topic. Read the whole way through before you make judgements.

I'm assuming pretty much everyone who goes on the game discussion section is a gamer. I just wanted to drum up some support for something. I, for one, am sick and tired of being bashed by fox news over and over again, as they deliver ignorant hatespeeches about video games over, and over again. We don't have a BIG enough voice to get recognised by FOX News, and I know that this may not be something big, but once, just once, would I like us to get the recognition we deserve. I've started a topic on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart forums, to try and get him to give us that voice for one time only. Its something small, but I think that if we were to get enough people to just put a message in there, maybe they'll take notice, do an episode and throw us a bone. Please go here http://forums.thedailyshow.com/?page=ThreadView&thread_id=41255, and just put something in the topic on video games, so that if enough people do it, maybe an episode will be used for someone to really strike back against FOX for all the times they bashed the gaming community. I may be a little naive, but at least if it happens, its something.

EDIT: Link didn't work before

I do agree that more of our side of the story needs to be told. (although it's not like we still don't have work to do before we can make ourselves out as perfect)

I've always wanted to pursue a successful acting career, and it crossed my mind recently if I were to gain significant public recognition it would be a great soapbox for me to also talk about my passion as a gamer. I'd particularly like to aim detractors such as Fox News in the direction of the guys at Extra Credits. Those guys talk some real sense, not just about the successes gaming has already had as a medium and hasn't been given credit for, but also ways we could improve further.

Gamers will never be perfect, in much the same way that soccer player are not perfect. And we don't really need a voice... just wait a decade or two. Gamers will rule the world =P

Probably shouldn't, but I'm just gonna bump this.
No need to bump after less than 15 minutes
But i agree, it always annoys me when i watch fox bashing video games, they usually dont have anyone from the industry to defend us, and when they do, they barely give them time to debate, or just try and discredit them.

The problem with going to the internet to ask for this, is in general, at least 50% of people on the internet are either idiots, or trolls, or both and unfortunatly might do more harm than good for our cause.

Even if you succeded in getting our voice on that show, they'd only try and use hyprocritical arguements to try and say our voice counts for less, or cant be trusted.

Fox has made up its mind about gaming, and unfortunatly we're going to be the scapegoats for right wing idiots until some new youth currupting technology comes along.

I think what Video games need is a main representative. I for one would recommend the extra credits team. They're quite smart, respectable, and make things easy to understand. My second vote would be Yahtzee, but that would be for more comedic purposes than actual progress.

Why do you care about what Fox News has to say about gamers? Imo, the people that actually listen to Fox News were dropped on their heads when they were born, or drink too much moonshine. This is the news station that, when Osama was killed, spelled "Osama" as "Obama"... oops?
I'd care if this was a reputable news station, but its like trying to get the retarded kid at school to stop eating your glue.

This is more like trying to get several MILLION retarded kids. Bigger than that. Its considered by too many to be a reputable news station. <Whole point. We small. They big. Us getting to fight back just for once.

The problem is that our community isn't 'clean'. Gamers do have problems and I think that games are more to blame than we'd like to admit.

Fox may be lying but we're lying too, we just happen to like our own lies.
I agree, we need to aknowledge the truths about our chosen media. Violent games do desensitise players to voilence. There ARE peer reviewed studies for this. It is NO MORE damaging then watching violent TV/Movies or reading violent books. There is no added impact of the controlling aspect of gaming.

I don't know if this is what your refering to but. Gamers tend to ignore everything not in their favor. Fox types ignore the last 2 statements, gamers ignore the first 2.

You just need to google "wow dead baby" or farmville as well to see they can be damn addictive. Certain people are suseptable to addiction and these people played farmville instead of trying crack. Its a personality type and not a weakness of gaming.

But yeah, you cant deny people get so addicted they ignore themselves and others health and safety.
