A game I can play with my little brother?

This is like my question in yahoo answers but now expanded to all games.

Combat Arms like game for my little brother and I (not pay to win)?
My little brother is 8 and so far all we can play together is L4D2 (which I grew bored of) and Minecraft (but LAN is always broken for us.) I'm looking for something like Combat Arms but not pay to win, I don't care if it's like $15 or anything just as long as it is not riddled with micro-transactions. Him and I tried doing Soldier Front, Crossfire, etc... but we couldn't find one that was not just pay to have fun.

I would like something where you can customize a load-out and maybe even add armor to your guy and stuff like in Combat Arms. I mean based on what I'm saying is Rekoil worth anything to find this goal?

In truth I would prefer any FPS that an 8 year old could play and don't say COD...

Normally I pay Crusader Kings and stuff like that but he's not very good at that stuff (god knows why) and I used to play games like CA when I was a bit older than him.

Now since that question I went to play Crossfire with him but it broke on us and is also full of hackers. A few responses to that said I should try Alliance of Valiant Arms but alas it has conformed to the P2W trend.

So now I ask for any game that would be good for him and I but still give shoot em ups as an answer too if you want.

Right now him and I try to do Roblox together but that doesn't work out too well because he only likes RP Servers where everybody failRPs.

Note: Computer games only and also we beat and forgot about all the Lego games so none of those either please.

I would suggest counter strike because there is practically no gore and as far as I know it has a ok community. Lego games are pretty good if you have a console.

Lol I forgot I had a Wii, but unfourtantly he doesn't like the games (even though the whole reason I bought Mario Party 8 was so I could play with him!!!)

You could try blacklight retribution. It has some gimmicky mechanics but its not pay 2 win iirc.

Or the obvious answer of Team Fortress 2, that game is fun.

You could play the coop for sniper elite, a friend and I played through it and it was enjoyable. You guys may enjoy nether, its a faster paced Dayz which is kinda entertaining to play with other irl friends.

Planetside 2 is another free shooter that is super grindy to get new things, but the basic stuff can still work efficiently.

Warframe is a f2p 3rd person shooter and its fun, its focused on PVE and it doesn't take too long to get new things without paying for it.

Could play through borderlands, or borderlands 2.

Thats all I can think of right now, I hope you find something. I enjoyed gaming with my little brother.

I think the LEGO games are your best bet. The LEGO games are quite fun to play in multiplayer and the humor they have is something that makes people smile.
I suggest Lego Marvel Superheroes as that one is really fun to play with others. I've played it with my little cousin, he's 6, and we both had a great time.

Thanks but man I keep leaving stuff out. I should have put no TF2 because I don't like it but I always put down WarFarme as looking like a crapola game, I'll try it now. Thanks for the recommend.

The Viva Pinata games, wonderful games full of colour, with a multiplayer component that will be simple for him to help you, but there's enough depth for you to not get bored by it.

I would suggest Payday, and Payday 2. They're specifically designed for cooperative play. You HAVE to watch each others backs, and can build your character to have skills to help your team. You can equip armor and different guns, and special gear bags to provide unique benefits to the missions.

It works (mechanically) a LOT like Left 4 Dead, but way more complex as far as how things can pan out. You can go stealthy and accomplish a lot of the mission map via stealth and precision. Or you can go in guns blazing and fight your way from start to finish.

It does involve you killing cops, I mean you are playing criminals after all, so that might be an issue with your 8 year old brother. I personally don't think it's an issue but hey, it's your brother, not mine.


Portal 2 is a fun game to play with your brother. Again, another game designed for cooperative play, and it's pretty damn funny to boot. He'll probably enjoy the goofy robots, I know I did and I was 30+ when I played it xD Me and a friend had a blast messing with each other with the portal guns, intentionally killing each other in comical ways.

Unreal Tournament. UT2004 is still alive. You wont have gear customization options, the game's a little old by now, but it's still a great game, still plays great, and there's no micro transactions at all.

Portal 2 could be right up your ally. It has a customization feature (although it is quite poor) and I think it is perfectly acceptable for an 8 year old.

Honestly? Halo, if you have an Xbox of any kind. It's a little floaty at first, but it's old-school style shooting fun. I grew up playing those games with my little brother (we're 19 and 13 respectively now) and it's great fun. Blood is minimal, there's no foul language except from the Grunts, and even then it isn't incredibly obvious.

TF2 is amazing as well in every sense of the word. It's not pay to win (everything you can pay for you can unlock quickly through achievements except for hats), the art direction is phenomenal and it's arcadey, not purely reflex based. It's a pretty hefty download now, but it's worth it.

Note: Computer games only and also we beat and forgot about all the Lego games so none of those either please.

There's Sanctum [http://store.steampowered.com/app/91600/] and Sanctum 2 [http://store.steampower]. FPS/TowerDefence Hybrids.
The first is more single-player, tower defense, and resource management oriented; the second is just a little more FPS and multiplayer focussed.
Fairly light on the violence - you're fighting waves of rather stupid and unpersonified 'lume' aliens (though there is orange blood and gibbing). I'd say it was fine for an 8 year old, especially if he's been playing L4D.

Only sticking point is that it doesn't have local splitscreen - so you'd have to buy two copies to play together.
