I know these threads are done to death, sorry. Just looking for other people's opinions on music.

I'm on the hunt for new music. Can anybody recommend anything for me? I'll honestly listen to anything. My favorite's tend to fall in the Hard Rock/Metal end of the spectrum. My personal favorite band of all time is System of a Down. Other stuff I listen to on a regular basis: Five Finger Death Punch, Lamb of God, Kamelot, Nightwish, Epica, Infected Mushroom, Queen, Pantera, Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Megaherz, Dethklok, Megadeth, Deathstars, Sublime, and asssorted Hardstyle artists. Anybody have something they think I would like? I really would like to branch out, so music from all genres are welcome! Thanks in advance.

I noticed a lack of Slipknot on your list. If this is intentional, try it. They receieve a lot of unwarranted hate, and a lot of unwarranted OTT kudos.

Also, try The Streets. It doesn't fit at all with your music tastes but I listened to your kind of music when I got into them so... I dunno.

I used to listen to Slipknot, but not lately. They were the mainstay on my iPod during the oh-so-angsty days of middle school and early high school. I haven't been able to listen to them for an extended period of time in a few years. Brings back too many memories of pointless angst and drama. The first album and Iowa were pretty damn good though....

Never heard of The Streets. I'll check them out, thanks. Any song in particular you think I should start with?

i would recommend to any metal fan, Periphery and between the buried and me. the latter being quite a bit harder than the average, but still very enjoyable.

Periphery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ah6Y2chzz4

Between the buried and me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OspGO0YVeRI

both sick bands

I know it'll sound stupid, but you have Queen there. Why not go for just normal rock like Muse, Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters? Maybe try 30 Seconds to Mars.

Something heaver, more punkier would be Rise Against, or hard rock would be Shinedown.

If you want to try something that is electronica/drum & bass but is a nice progression from rock maybe try Pendulum or The Prodigy?

Leaning towards metal, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Korn, Killswitch Engage.

If you like Nightwish I would recommend Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil.
And also Dream Theater as they are the best hard/prog rock group ever.

I'm going to go with Seether... mainly cause I always do and they're one of my favourite bands of all time.

I never was big on Muse or the Foo Fighters. I don't know why, just couldn't get into them. As for Rise Against, I used to really like Prayer of the Refugee. Never listened to much of them after that though. I forgot to include Pendulum in my list, LOVE them. Only heard a little of the Prodigy. Forgot to include Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, and Korn in my list as well, some of my other favorites. Never could get into Killswitch Engage though. Again, not sure why, just didn't click for me.

Thanks.

I do quite like Seether, one of those bands that's good for an emotional release.

its true it doesn't get any better than dream theater no matter what.

i would definitely recommend the scenes from a memory album to start off.

Well, we have System of a Down, Dethklok and Megadeth in common, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to copy/paste this list of my favourite bands. If any have already been suggested or you already know them, then silly me.

Here Comes The Kraken - Awesome Mexican deathcore band, double bass is insanely fast, probably the fastest I've ever heard. Here's a good song from them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQEMextCuOA

Waking The Cadaver - Pretty cool band, their first album has only two good songs as the rest are about rape and such, but the second album was great. Another song for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqHEmBCv0Ns This is the demo version as I can't find the album version with lyrics in the description, because you won't be able to understand this guy at all.

Cannibal Corpse - After I started listening to Dethklok I wanted more Death Metal, and as far as I know these guys are the best. You may wanna stay away from their early work as it's pretty damn gory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Fsf-R7GOo&p=6F2800F74EEDDCA4&playnext=1&index=50 Might wanna google the lyrics for this one.

That Handsome Devil - These guys are the only non-metal band I routinely listen to, I don't know how to describe them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZLmCBkbKJM

Serj Tankian - Um, he's the front man of your favourite band ever. I'll be surprised if you don't already know his work, his first album is rather similar to SoaD.

Scars on Broadway - Two soad members, pretty cool little band.

iwrestledabearonce - Probably the most unclassifiable band in existence. Essentially they are deathcore with occasional elements of techno, jazz and electro. I'm not sure how serious they are about their music. Oh yeah, and their singer's a girl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrFTR9fucr8

Powerglove - Heavy-metal video-game-music cover band. I think being a member of this forum suggests you will appreciate them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trGkPerU3-k They have also covered various cartoon theme songs such as Pokemon and Transformers.

Psychostick - They describe themselves as 'Humourcore' being a metal band that will make you laugh your ass of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-jOEAufDQ4

Avenged Sevenfold - Most people hate 'em simply because they're mainstream, and so did I. Then I actually listened to a few of their songs, now I own every album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VurhzANQ_B0&ob=av3n This song doesn't define their musical style at all, but it's my favourite one by them.

Hope you enjoyed some of my suggestions. Smiley face.

Which SOAD album is your favourite?

If you're more into Toxicity / STA!, then you'll be better off looking at more metallic stuff. I recently got into Death By Stereo, a mixture of metallic elements and hardcore punk; you may also like some of the early work of Lostprophets (try the first two tracks from Thefakesoundofprogress) and ever tried Rage Against The Machine?

If you're more into Mezmerize/Hypnotize, then you'll be better off looking at the hard rock spectrum. The Darkness are a great band, although you may find the lead singer's falsettos irritating, in which case you may prefer the follow-up band Stone Gods - same guitarist, same style, different lead singer. And look also at stuff like Velvet Revolver.

There's certainly a lot of metalcore in this thread.

Anyway, I recommend Mirrorthrone, Wintersun, Lord, Slayer, Sodom and Triptykon.

Edit: Later Solstafir too.

First I will give some metal for you, then I will move in a different direction. Hope this helps a bit.

As much as I love The Dillinger Escape Plan and Iwrestledabearonce (both amazing live by the way), I have been drifting into other realms of music recently.

Let's do one more just for fun. I love Hank Williams III. Yes, he is country, but here is a song where he is talking about how much modern country music sucks.

I'm not big on most Death Metal, not enough melody for me. I'll check out those links when I have some time though And of course I've heard of Serj! Love his solo albums. Scar's on Broadway is pretty good, I personally like Serj's solo work more though. Powerglove is epic! Psychostick makes me laugh my ass off so hard. A7X is pretty good, not my favorite, but they definitely do not deserve all the hate thrown their way.
