Morning all.

At the moment I'm getting rather attached to my 360 and PS3, I'm having quite a blast with friends and wish to record these memories for future storing and gloating. I'm told that I'll need a capture card for this, however my google searches turned up mostly contradictory and confusing answers usually written by 10 year olds.

Price is a bit of an issue, if possible I'd rather not have it run me more than the price of my system, yet I want good quality, a good example being this.

Any suggestions?

For a console?

My thought is something called a Dazzle, I found one at my local Radioshack.

It's probably quite costly, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

Well, I saw one called an Intensity or something, it was 250$ but apparently was top of the line.

Checked out your Dazzle, it's anywhere from 9.95 to 68.70 on Amazon.

EDIT: Ah, found this while searching for a good deal, only 9 dollars. It has a lot of negative reviews, but one positive review notes that most if not all of the negative reviews are due to a difficult installation, and he then lists a guide on how to get it to work. I'll keep looking.

Fixed your embed, first of all.

Second, if you want it to be of a high quality, you're gonna want to find one with an HDMI or component (the green blue, red) input (and output) or buy yourself a VGA cable for your system, a KVM switch, and search for one that has a VGA input on it. You gotta remember, when you use a capture card, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VIDEO OUT ON YOUR TV OR SOME SORT OF SPLITTER, otherwise you are flying blind or by a tiny preview. Or you can crack open your computer and slap this baby in there.
Strange, works fine for me.

Now you've lost me. You see, this is the main problem that I have with capture cards in the first place. It's extremely confusing to a PC fucktard like myself, where "Video Capture" translates into "Boot up Fraps".

I have an HDTV, an HDMI cable, and an Xbox 360. Other than the capture card, what else do I need? If you or someone else can find me a card that does 720p, for under 200 bucks, then I owe you a round of beer/non alcoholic beverages.

EDIT: Would this work? It even streams 1080p, apparently.
DOUBLE EDIT: Wow. Never mind. I'll just get an EasyCap then, since the quality looks satisfactory. Any advice on getting it working then?

Again, you'll need a splitter, and if you get the EasyCap, you'll be sacrificing HD completely. When you use a capture card, you are plugging your composite, component, or HDMI into it, and it shoves that signal through a USB port (for external caps) or PCI Express interface (for internal) into your computer. Now think about that for a second. You have it plugged into your computer, not the TV. Your computer is recording and processing what is being pushed into it WHILE it is displaying it in a preview. This leads to delays in picture and sound if you are actually trying to play using the preview on your monitor. By forgoing a splitter of some kind, you are essentially fucking yourself over.
Oh wow.

Alright, so splitter is a definite. And apparently I'm gonna have to do alot more research then I originally thought. Back to Google it is! Thanks for your help.
