So i work in Apartments in the City of Perth.
I work with people three days a week, and frankly I am over people.
These people moved in and the security air keys they can use were turned off. Standard procedure for the building management i work for. All though to me this illegal, but lets not worry about him today. My concern is the people that moved in.

So with their air key not working they approached me as to why. I explained how the air key may have been turned off. So they asked if I could turn it back on, which I can't as only the manager has the training and authority to turn air keys on and off. So I explained to the woman that she would have to see the manager. To which she freaked out. She said she never wanted anything to do with him, as she found him extremely rude. Which he is, exceptionally so on a bad day.. So I sympathised with her that I would talk to him on her behalf as I could see she was EXTREMELY distressed about talking to the manager again.

This was five days ago.
I come into work today to find a complaint from the woman against me ! Even though i was nothing but sympathetic and understanding of their concerns. Yet she took nearly everything I had said out of context.

Things changed alot:

I said "I will talk to him on your behalf" turned into " I will protect you from him." Which she explains she found offensive... not that I said that, but I thought being protected from some one you are clearly affraid of would be a good thing...

I said " he may seem rude, but he is doing everything he can to ensure the security of the building". Now I dont like the guy, but this is my standard repsonse when ever someone calls him an asshole, which is a daily occurence. Any way what I said was turned into "yeah he is rude to everyone"

She said that I had met her in passing many times before. Yet even if true this doesn't mean I know her by name and face. So when she apporached me about her problem I asked her who she was. Which turned into "He said he had never seen me before when in fact he has acknowledged me several times." Um, just because i say "Hello" doesnt mean I know who you are 100%.

So right now I am shaking a little I admit. I don't enjoy things I have said being taken out of context and miss quoted to this calibre. Especially when this is my only means of employment and my wife and I are in the process of building a house.

So: What have ever done that was nice that has been spun around on you to make you look like the bad guy ?

edited for spacing after I calmed down a bit

That sucks, dude.

But she would have taken being protected as offensive because she's a feminist, and wants to attack you for suggesting that she, as a woman, needs protecting.

And yet, I bet she would violently oppose the removal of the locking system she hates so much.

Fun world, eh?

I remember there was another thread about this woman who dragged another woman out of a possibly explosive car, and the saved woman sued her for injuring her dragging her out!
Ugh, it's like the burglars that sue the people whose house they injured themselves breaking into. Our justice system needs some work, I will admit.

This woman seems a bit....iffy to me. I'd avoid her at all costs from now on before she kidnaps you and starts calling you "Miranda."

Man that really sucks. What an asshole. I guess all you can do is let your manager know your side of the story. I can't remember any times a good thing has come back to me in a bad way right now, but if I do, I'll be back.

time to look into a new job - why don't you travel to asia and help build houses for poorer people?
Poor people don't have any money to pay.

If he moved every time he encountered an asshole he would have to live in space. The only thing I can think of would be to tell your manager what you told us. What is your job anyway?

Ugh, this one time when me and my friend were being payed to help around a bouncy castle for little kids at our main streets town festival, we got good money, but when setting up we found that the power cord for the inflato thing had to go over a foot path, so we asked the manger there, so he went and covered it in a non sli[ cover mat.

It all went well for around 2 hours, when some lady around 40 walked past and slipped over on the non slip mat. Now I didnt see it, i was helping some little kids off the castle, but my friend saw it, but somebody beat him to it to help her up, after she dusted herself off and checked to see if she was alright, she walked over too us, cause it was our cord, and threatend to sue us for neglegence.

We were flabbergasted, we put the mat there so people wouldnt slip over and hurt them selves. We had to get the manager to work it out, she didnt end up sueing us (we were 14 at the time, it would have sucked). Nut our good deed almopst caqme un done. with us almosdt being sued for it.

I adore people who think they can sue other people for their own stupidity.

Her lawsuit would have been frivolous anyway. She was probably just mad and saw some AWESOME tv show the other day about the US in which people sued each other over eating a colour of skittles which they found was very offensive, and gained millions over it.

Perhaps you can now sue the guiness book of world records for not documenting you being the first Australian kid getting a frivolous lawsuit threat.

My job title is Concierge. I work in up market Apartments. It's hard to describe my job, but VERY basically I am the person people come to to ***** about stuff. Normally how their life of priviledge(sp?) has gone to hell because a light went out in the hall way or other assorted frivolous crud.
Mostly my job description says I am here to secure the perimeter of the building and ensure people who enter are authorised to do so. So Security Guard on that side.
But yeah people come to me to fix their crap, or organise a guy to fix their crap. Also the security thing I mentioned before. Namely also letting them into their Apartment when they lock themselves out.

The thing with my manager is he IS a dick, just like the woman said. He will then use this complaint to threaten my job. He does this on a Monthly basis. "you're not doing your job, and if you keep going there wont be a job." "ok so what am i doing wrong." "That's not the point." Is probably my favourite conversation with him of late.
So I cant just go to him and tell him my side of the story as half the time he doesnt listen. The other half of the time I dont even get a chance to explain..

I know exactly how you feel mate. Just yesterday my friend took something I said completely out of context (admittedly it was a poor choice of words) and I've spent all last night and lots of today trying to rectify the situation (she is very touchy about these matters).

In relation to your problem um... well... I don't know what to suggest. You've been, for lack of a better term, fucked over, I guess it could be worse, your wanker manager could fire you and then your really screwed in this economy, guess you better save that $900 just in case. I guess if they decide to take action based on this complaint all you can do is tell your side of the story and hope for the best. I feel sorry for you mate.

This situation is synominous with Perth. I warned a guy who moved in here, having come to live with his dad from the USA. I warned him about the bosses here in Perth. He admitted later he didn't quite believe me at first, but then he was exposed to their assholery first hand. He said he never thought it could be as bad as I described it, but then he experienced it.
