Any suggestions? I know there is a BF1942 mod, but are there any full fledged games where you can be a foot soldier?

Not that I'm aware of given that it was mostly sitting in trenches and occasionally charging to your death. There will be a mod for empire total war however that sets it in WW1.

Sorry champ, fresh out of ideas.
I think the closest game to what you're thinking of would be that Civil War game. 30 Second reloads FTW!

If there's a game/mod out there, they must've gone to great lenghts to make an interesting FPS... I can see the point of making a RTS game though, since there's plenty of opportunities to use nifty tactics to work around the whole trench problem

Bomberman 64 is about as close as you get to a WW1 game outside of a WW2 game or mods.

You could make a World War 1 FPS game that's not just sitting in trenches and occasionally charging to your death by setting it in the desert campaign. (this may just be Australian Pride speaking) but the Australian Light Horse Brigade do some incredible things (and I'm not talking about their suicidal charge on Galipoli for an Australian History Buffs), such as the Charge at Beersheba. I'd enjoy shooting some Turks from horseback (no offense to any Turks

The Trenches was a Half-Life 1 mod that I played for a bit. Don't know how many people still play it though.

As far as i know... they've only ever made WWII games. WWI is kind of completely overshadowed in gaming and in real life. How often do you hear people mention world war one as opposed to world war 2?

I would actually like 1...it could be a simulation/RPG....your goal everyday is to survive and by doing that you need many pairs of socks!!!

Most of the games set in world war II are aerial combat sims, but I remember a few that weren't...

Say, The Entente, I think, was a pretty good strategy game. Sort of like Cossacks, except in world war I.

Necrovision is a twisted version of World War I and a shooter, which I thought was relatively okay.

And, I think Aggression: Reign over Europe was pretty good, not exceptional, but pretty good.
