Well, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is fairly excellent once you mod it with Complete. Unforgiving, though.

I have another idea or two, but neither are on Steam.

Naaaawh, you edited it. :( Your first post was better. We need more ponies saying I am awesome.

Oh and Oblivion or Skyrim is a great choice.
Had to,I'm on probation so i would've gotten banned.

What's Complete? I bought SoC and CoP in a bundle but so far have only beaten CoP with the AtmosFEAR mod. Can you clue me in before I start my SoC run?
STALKER Complete [http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009], for all three games. Bugfixes, graphical improvements, bugfixes, balancing, bugfixes and some modifications for ease of play. Basically? Near-essential.

Have fun.

Ah, thanks. :)

Maybe just earned another CoP playthrough.
Oh, it gets better. Ever heard of the space travel mod? Put everything I know about it in the spoiler below.

Also, I wish CoP ran on my laptop. But noooo, only SoC does. Ah well.

It doesn't exist.

You could try Planescape: Torment, which is an older RPG with pretty good game play and an amazing story and rich setting. It's not on Steam that I know of, but you can download it on Gog.com for $10 which is better anyway. Knights of the Old Republic is an RPG on Steam and is supposed to be awesome (I haven't played it yet but own it and may start it soon) and it only $10. The original Deus Ex is another great choice that is on Steam for $10 that is pretty similar to VTMB (Bloodlines I'm assuming is the one you played). People who like Deus Ex tend to like VTMB and vice versa. Like VTMB, Deus Ex is a shooter/rpg blend with stealth elements and a really good story, but not as much dialogue as VTMB.

The original Fallout is another good choice you can get from Gog.

Just so you know, I played all these games (except KOTOR) for the first time in the last year or so, and I thought they were all awesome, so it's not just nostalgia talking.

A pretty good point and click adventure game I played recently is Syberia, which can also be had on Steam or GOG for $10. It's got some fairly obtuse puzzles (at least to someone who almost never played adventure games like me), but I guess all adventure games do. It's got a very whimsical and nice story and a really cool art style. I mention this b/c I see you played the Longest Journey, which I intend to start soon. Maybe. I have kind of a giant backlog, and I just finished VTMB.

Oblivion/Skyrim are/will probably be really cool games, but they aren't really known for having a strong story. If you get Oblivion, make sure to get it on PC so you can mod it, especially the level scaling.

You have Portal on your list, have you played Portal 2? Besides that, how about Psychonauts?

You have to play Borderlands GOTY edition. Crazy. Spent about 100 hours on it.
Played :)

Genres? Rpgs, adventure and a bit of strategy. Not so hot on shooters, but i do play some. Bioshock and systemshock was fun (tho frustrating at times).

Hehe. And now Borderlands.

Then again the TS is going to have to choose anyway. Decent story or good gameplay, or neither.

Gothic 2

Skyrim isn't even out, so I don't know how anyone can say what the quality of story is like yet.

Oblivion, as much as I loved the game, yeah the story was awful.

If you liked Freelancer, you'll probably enjoy Darkstar One. It's very similar, albeit with better graphics.

Metro 2033, or install either S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat but play with mods because the games become a million times more epic.

On Steam:

Company of Heroes: Squad-based WW2 RTS game with overarching plots based around the commanding officers of each belligerent.

Deus Ex: First person shooter set in the future and focusing on consipracies, intrigue, and typical cyberpunk type plots.

Metro 2033: Is a post-apocalyptic FPS set in the subways of Moscow. Very envrionmental with psychological overtones.

Beyond Good and Evil: Third person adventure game involving a reporter and a conspiracy. Features anthropomorphic animals. Strongly recommended.

Commandos: WW2 Tactical stealth strategy game. You control a squad of commandos behind the lines in WW2, each with unique skill sets, pitted against superior enemy forces, and must complete specific objectives. Petty old game, but fun.

Penumbra: The other game that the makers of Amnesia made. Pretty much in the same vein only less supernatural and more science fiction.

Broken Sword: Old point and click adventure game where you play as characters who become involved in a murder plot in Paris that becomes more than it initially seems to be on the surface.

Culpa Inata: From what I can tell (I have yet to fully play it) it is a point and click adventure in the same vein as Broken Sword and Longest Journey. Scifi setting.

Winter Voices: Tactical RPG. Rather slow pace. Haven't played through it. Get it cheap or not at all.

Not on Steam:

Homeworld: Story driven space opera, RTS. It's not on steam, but its one of the best games ever made.

Omikron the Nomad Soul: Strange adventure/action/nascar-type theatrical hybrid event. It's by Quantic Dream.

Neverwinter Nights 2, if you enjoy RPG types such as Baldurs Gate and Torment you might enjoy this.
