The Persona 3 tammate A never frustrated me, and did its job acceptably. This was further refined by my ability to give them incresingly specific strategies to implement, but even on 'regular' mode..

Agreed totally. On my second Fallout 3 playthrough I'm trying to play as a stealthy character with pistols, but I also ended up with jericho and dogmeat far earlier on than I'd got a companion on my main character. Powerful as they are, I'm often finding them doing all the damage as my weapons are largely useless unless sneaking (scoped magnum for example)

Yeah my first character is stealth and I've tried Dogmeat, Charon, and Clover and they all don't compliment my play style at all...Maybe when I go melee on my next character.

The Call of Duty franchise is definitly up there; particularly 4 and 5. Tossing back grenades is extremely helpful, and the infinite health of the main characters is also a bonus.

I think the first AI that really impressed me was that present in SWAT 4. You get a nice balance between the Ghost Recon style 'tell me to do something and I'll do it' and the more intelligent HL2 'I can actually make my own decisions' AI.

Other than that, I've generally had a grunge against all A.I. partners.
