Literally, here i am, coning out of a few particularly difficult chords, and SMACK, i'm destroyed by some flying guitar shreeks...
thats right, i'm fighting music
How you ask? its with a game called Audiosurf, [link]http://www.audio-surf.com/[/link]
now, i actually bought the thing after playing the demo, and i wanted to share it with you guys, so heres how it works.
You turn it on, the menu opens with a hum and a funkier version of 'my computer' opens, you sift through the junk to find your song, and Audiosurf does the rest... It takes about 20 seconds to load an average song, and once you've chosen from a range of game modes, your off, an arcade style game, you race down a twisting track collecting colored blocks corresponding to the song itself, the steepness of the track also changes with the speed of the song...
Any song, any audio clip in fact, from the rollercoaster style of Wolfmother to the "HOLY ^&%#" sheer drop of Dragonforce, Audiosurf makes a track for every one.
Not only that, but for every song there is an online ranking, and while the game looks simple enough, it takes a while to master, not to mention the added benefit of an ever changing range of songs...
this isn't just a plug for the game, id download the demo if you like the sound of it, its a blast, and it has a co-op mode, which online can lead to... interesting disputes over who should have focused on what colour... becuase i know they help sway the masses... SCREENSHOTS!
a basic scene, a particularly mellow one for some songs
Every song is a range of different games, Dragonforce = Good for Eraser, Bad for Ninja Mono
a preview of each song and its ups and downs (literally) is avaliable, a steep song such as this will play quite slowly, while a fast song will be a sheer 45 degree drop, much steeper in the game itself.
Well, its not exactly the freeware that usually goes around on escapist... i tossed up about putting this in reviews, but i really just want to show it off to you guys, rather than critiquing the game... if i did its a big 10/10, Even without the online ranks
