A Link Between Worlds Is Not a Sequel, But Not a Remake Either

I hate the zelda timeline, I remember when nintendo made the official statement that all zelda games apart form ones directly linked to each other were set in different worlds it made sense. It is also what allowed the games so much freedom, just let them make a new world that fits in the zelda style and vola they have new puzzle and gameplay mechanics that wouldn't be possible in the currently established world. Imagine if one day square enix tried to make a timeline linking all the final fantasy games together we would think they had all gone mad.

OT: I don't care just give me more link to the past, there were like 2-3 years of my life were I would just complete the game 100% and then reset it. Heck in my head a map of hyrul pops up every time I say a trailer for link between worlds so I can pin point the locations that are being revisited.

So, it's basically a parallell universe then?

"If you only buy one game this month, let THIS be it!"

It seems like Nintendo was sad that it's timeline was finally understood well, so they decided to change this game so they can say "figure out where this fits now my fanboy monkeys!" >:D

Given that every Zelda game is the same game, remade again and again and again with--at most--superficial differences, it would have been unbelievably refreshing for them to take such a bold, creative (for Nintendo) step as to make a direct, genuine sequel. Good thing they changed their mind on that one--I had actually been excited about a Nintendo game for the first time since ALTTP.
I'm not going to get too confrontational, but I'll just say the only people I've encountered who make the claim "Zelda hasn't changed at all over the years" or "it's just the same game" never played enough(or any) of the games, if anything I've heard people complain about how the series keeps changing it's setting, art style, controls etc.

OT: To kinda counter what I just said, this game has me worried that the over world will just be A Link to the Past's and it will just feature new or remixed dungeons. It looks great, but I have my concerns. It doesn't help that Aonuma himself has a hard time explaining his point.

Don't worry nothing gets past me! If this takes place a "generation" or two after A Link to the Past, the order would go:

A Link to the Past
Then the two Oracle games featuring the same Link from ALttP.
Then Link's Awakening, again with the same Link.
Now time passes and this new Link would go on his adventure for Link Between Worlds.

I'm suprised people are even TRYING to keep a track of the continuity of Zelda right now. We've all known from about five or six years ago that, well...Zelda has many, MANY good aspects, but a cohesive, understandable timeline is NOT one of them.

Majora's Mask. Spirit Tracks. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. And hell, WIND WAKER, is technically a sequel to Ocarina of Time.

Did you even play the games? Or is this an attempt at trolling?

This game s either Between ALttP and OoA or After Links Awakening.

Either way this should fit in the Era of Light and Dark and not during the Golden Era
Yeah, this new information wasn't really much of a curve ball for the timeline. At first I thought it would've been between ALttP and the Oracle games, but I suppose it can't be since it isn't the same Link as we all thought before. Plus the three gameboy games are all a part of ALttP Links' story, so A Link Between Worlds can only be between Link's Awakening and the original game so it would still fit into the Era of Light and Dark I believe.

...So, It's a sequel to "Link to the Past", in the same regards that Wind Waker is a "sequel" to Ocarina of Time?

So is he trying to say it takes place after A Link to the Past & before Adventure of Link in the Hero Defeated timeline, or that it's a 4th timeline?

Great another split in the timeline, another divergence. So in this one does Link meet his mom, who falls in love with him instead of his dad - who point of fact is also named Link - and does Biff "ganondorf" Tannin kidnap Link's mom, thus creating a paradox that could wipe out Link's entire existence? Great Scott!
If Link & Zelda's decedents aren't already blood related, doesn't it mean they never got together in any generation? Or is the small percentage of people who think they're separated siblings right?

There have been 17 Zelda games so far. Of those, only 6 have had the standard "Find the Triforce and defeat Gannon to save Zelda" plotline. When you consider that one of those isn't a sequel, that's 5 of the 17 games; less than one third of the entire series. All the rest of the series has had their own original plot.
