A little mouse problem

A month ago I bought a Roccat Kova gaming mouse for £40. Everything was fine with it, until recently. Now every half hour or so (especially in game, it can go down to just 3 minutes) the mouse will stop working, crash, and the only way I can get it working again is to unplug and replug it or restart the computer.

Anyone have any ideas on what it might be? Im not sure if I have the receipt, so Id prefer any home remedies.

Thanks for your time

Have you tried re-installing or updating the drivers?

It may be conflicting with some other drivers or hardware on your computer, like there could be a conflict with the mouse or one of it's buttons and another device... perhaps there's a conflicting port or address or something.

Perhaps the mouse requires more power than the USB port it's plugged into can provide... have you tried plugging it into another USB port, perhaps one in the back of your computer rather than the front?

Sorry if this sounds vague, but drivers or device conflicts are usually the causes of hardware crashes. I don't actually know much about this, but I just Googled "roccat kova mouse crashes" and skim-read the first result.

Hopefully you'll be able to find a more thorough answer.

Yeah as jamash says, it sounds like a driver problem or possibly a hardware fault, or simply a lack of power.

Though to be honest i've never had a mouse crash on me (separate from the whole system locking up) so i'm inclined to think hardware.

I believe Jamash was quite on the money there.

I'd say it's either drivers or a software that are conflicting. So it worked well for some time? Have you installed any new hardware or other peripherals than the mouse, updated drivers or installed some software (firewalls or other heavy applications)?

Things that you can do before you even answer to those:
Reinstall drivers: First remove them. Download the newest drivers you can find from an official Roccat support website. Then do whatever the installation requires. If it says you first need to install the drivers, then do not plug in the mouse before it tells you to.

You should also try (after removing the mouse, Roccat drivers and rebooting) to do everything you did before. Just to check that the crashing really is because of the mouse, and not for another reason.

Try another USB port as this can be caused by other USB devices overlapping with your mouse somehow.

On a side note. I've never had anything from Roccat, but I love how they name their products using Finnish words. Kova means Hard ,for instance.

This seems like a good idea, Ill look inot it tommorow.

May I also add that for some reason, during kane and lynch 1, the mouse stops every 10 minutes, but if I flick the mouse wheel up it works again, till the next time. (This doesent work for the generally crashes)
This doesnt happen in K and L 2

Sounds all the more like a driver issue.

If you bother to google the thing, you'll notice it doesn't actually use software drivers. Thus, it probably isn't a driver issue, and if it is you're going to need a new mouse. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer and see if someone there has an idea.

try different USB ports, either you have a dodgy port or a funny port.
