I hope this is in the right place.

I recently picked up the tri pack of Metal Gear Solid one, two and three. Now, It has come to my attention that there were versions of the game released later on that were for lack of a better word, better. I speak of Metal Gear Solid 2 Sustenance, and Metal gear Solid 3 Subsistence. Now the question.

Did these two versions come in the tri pack, or only separately?

I think only separately. I've never seen the tri-pack in person though, but I assume they have the original basic version of each game (Sons of Liberty, and Snake Eater, and no VR disc for MGS1).

Edit- The re-issues of the games (Subsistence and so on) had a second disc each. Other than the title, that's a good way to tell right away which you got with that.

MGS 2: Sons of Liberty[footnote]If you're looking for Substance, you'll need to buy it separately. Though, the addons aren't really a big deal, so no need to go out of your way.[/footnote] and MGS 3: Subsistence both came in the Essential Collection, which retails for around $20.
Included with them was MGS for the Playstation.

But I've seen the third, Subsistence, and there was two disks. Mine only has one. Did they put it all on one?

That depends upon when you bought it. If it was recently, then no, it should only have one.

They discontinued the two-disc boxes (the second featuring the online) for Subsistence back when the servers were closed.

ok, MGS2 in the pack is Substance, the MGS3 one I believe is just the main game, or its the first disc of Subsistence, if you want the extra stuff, you will have to buy a new Subsistence game.

Anytime. I was in those shoes once, and I was scrambling all over for fear that I had been missing out. :D

In short MG1 had an "expansion pack released" VR missions and such 3 of which were as the cyborg ninja.

Metal Gear Solid 2 got substance which included the original game and an extra disc with bonus features pretty much like in a movie DVD. Included script music tracks that you could change on the fly to emulute suddenly being found/caution mode etc. Had some VR missions too. I wouldn't say you are missing out on much personally.

MGS 3 eventually got subSIstence. Which was the original game with the new camera system in full rotatable 3D. I think all the cutscenes were watchable from the start.
The second disk contained extra snake vs monkey missions (don't ask), the online (now shut down) also uthe old 2D metal gears from the 80s but better translated (and in the case of the sequel just translated unless you count the fan version). I think that was all.

Some cases had a 3rd disk which was basically the story cutscenes and some gameplay edited into a film.

I would argue that of the lot only the original metal gears are any sort of loss but thats just my opinion. Having said that, being able to get the whole story in one (long) sitting does make it have more punch than playing it unless you are that quick and patient.
