Um, call me old fashioned or an idiot but I have encountered a problem in minecraft that not even the marvelous wonders of the inter-webs can solve..

I can't make grass grow..

Now I know there are several sites almost dedicated to this stuff but they can't make my grass grow no matter what I try..

The situation is this: I have an artificial island made of stone, I decided I wanted a garden, so I put down the dirt but then the grass wouldn't grow on it and its looks like a big pool of s**t.. I have tried creating a dirt bridge from mainland grass to my island but it doesn't want to grow..

Now it could be that I'm doing something wrong or that I'm being impatient in waiting for my grass to grow so what do you think the problem is?

Any help will warrant a cookie reward... (if it works)

I haven't found a remedy that works without fail. Whenever I put dirt down, it usually takes three days before grass grows, and one or two times it worked the second I put it down.

Wait a week in Minecraft and see how it goes.

Grass can only grow on a dirt block that is next to another dirt block with grass on it, and can be one up or down from it, but needs to be touching a side. It just requires sunlight and time after that.

This might be the answer, my dirt bridge has grown one piece of grass at the grassy end, it has sunlight and torches..

maybe just time is the answer after all..
