NOTE: This is a question about a game mod, not the forum kind.

So I was doing a scout around some charity shops and managed to snap up this little beauty.

It looked good and was in good condition so I decided to buy it, however, it says I need a registered version of Quake to install it, and the closest I got is Quake 2.
So my question is, do I really need to buy a copy of Quake (probably off Steam or something) or is there something else I can do?

Thanks for any help that can be provided

Is Quake not open source yet? Thought they'd have released that ages ago.

Edit: Yes it is, surely you could just run the mod off of that?

How do you mean by open source?
I'm an idiot, I know.

The engine and games code has been given out publicly for people to do what they want with, I'd have thought that would be the case for Quake, but I'm not sure.
