Assassins creed 3 IN ANTARCTICA!
How about setting it in Europe as there are less guns or it could be in the cold war on either side of the iron curtain. Trying to get people past the Berlin wall would be fun.

Assassin's Creed 3: Vice City. I will so run a ***** over in my maserati just for the kicks of it. I'd run over kittens too if it meant I didn't have to do the platform puzzles like the assassins tombs had.
Personally, I found the Assassins Tombs to be VERY entertaining. I've always been a fan of Runny Jumpy Climby Puzzly. Well, most of the time anyway.
I can see the appeal but I'm getting to be an old fart with poor motor control and spent most of my time climbing back up cause my dumb ass ain't so uber anymore. Ahh the good old days, pong where fore art thou pong? lol.

The Cold War does sound like a fairly nice setting for the next game. Less guns, less blood, but the deception and art of sabotage during those times were heavy.

Desmond's skillset focus heavily on infiltration and close combat, which in a modern setting would lead to fewer "walk up and stab on the street" assassinations and more home or stronghold invasion killings.

You'd see less free-running, and more obstacle scaling, vent/duct crawling, silenced handguns or hand crossbows, close range anti-personnel gas or chemical weapons and stun batons. That sort of thing.

I just noticed something. Uncharted 2's gameplay feels very close to modern-day Desmond. The only thing needed is less emphasis on cover-and-fire gameplay and more freeroaming.

World War 1 setting would be nice and refreshing. But i can bet it's gonna be World War 2, and you get to kill Hitler.
The WW 2 setting would have alot of assasination missions, however i can see it falling flat on its face, why, because ITS ANNOTHER MOTHER FUCKING WW2 GAME. sure they may be able to pull it off nicely but the gaming world has already killed 100 times more nazi's then acually existed.

Maybe, but that would remove Assassin's Creed's biggest charm. How many games nowadays are set during the crusades? How many are set during the renaissance? And how many are set in modern day?

You know what would be great? If they shunned all the rumours and created a proper time machine. Then Desmond says "fuck it" to his destiny and hits it up caveman style. The hidden blade becomes a club for braining things. No guns, just rocks to throw. The flying machine becomes a friendly pterodactyl powered by mangoes.
That seems a terrible waste of mangoes! But innovative nevertheless!

The gaming world will love to have this game simply because it WON'T be like other WW2 games. You're not gonna fight in D-Day (Again), your proably gonna be creeping around Germany,or Italy, or Japan assassinating all of the members of the Axis forces that have ties to Templars. I don't remeber ever doing THAT in a previous WW2 game.

Don't judge a book (or a video game) by it's cover.

Has the potential to be REALLY good.

It would have to be all about the stealth. And the kills, arguably, would have to be done in such a way that no one would suspect assassination.

But on the other hand, it has the potential to be another GTA clone. Albeit a well designed, superbly animated, ingeniusly written clone, but a clone none the less.

I don't think the climbing would be fun with modern buildings. Part of the beauty of AC is that roofs are always a quick escape. And a 10+ story building is not a quick climb.
think about if they used the insides of buildings as well, though, then in could look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GpOroM0g80

If it goes modern, then i'd like to see disguised weaponry. I keep thinking of poison-tipped umbrellas in a rain-swept street. Blades concealed in footwear, etc.

Saboteur, anyone?

Just so long as the game isn't set in D-Day or Iwo Jima and you play as Private Name's-Not-Important out of East Bumfuck, I don't see a problem.

Speaking of which, the Saboteur is pretty close to what I'd expect out of a Modern Assassin's Creed, but with less dynamite and more silencers.

Hmmm. Maybe I was wrong with the word "modern day." To me, The Assassin's Creed could be a little more futuristic in terms of setting considering something like the Animus exists.
Assassin's Creed 1 took place in September 2012, and the game is leading towards December 2012 when something is going to happen, so don't think too futuristic.

All I want is a hidden gun like the ones from Inglorious Basterds. Run up and punch a guy in the head and blow his brains all over the wall.

If they made it in japan it would be so awesome , to be able to act like a true ninja , but then again desmond isn't japanese so that would be hard to explain

I think they should stick to the past, I like the use of historical figures all linked to tell about the pieces of eden.

And guns would just turn it into a stealth shooter.

And we have anti-grip paint, goodbye free running.

I was under the assumption that AC 3 would not take place in world war 2. And of course, a modern one would not work. Also, I swear Assassins creed was going to be a trilogy and I have no idea how they are going to complete the story in just one game.
