Hello escapist happy holidays and merry christmas!

I am trying to broaden my music collection but I don't know many artists, I am into most music excluding new pop and country. Music i do listen to is reggae, death metal, old school rap i.e cypress hill. I am looking for good chill music like "my little green bag" by George baker and any other types of music people suggest. I am very open minded so please suggest any thing i may be interested in.

Hm...well I personally listen to everything except new top 40 artists, but I need to know what you like specifically.

I like just about everything from this:

If you want music to "chill to" check out The Decemberist. This band has been an obsession of mine for awhile now. Their songs run deep, every time I listen to one of their songs, I discover something new. Listen to "The mariner's revenge." It's the first song that hooked me.

Fast paced at times, but also extremely chilled out. Awesome band, and if you like them, you'll probably like Dream Theater; as this band is a side project.

I has an idea. Go to either jazz-funk fusion or post-grunge, judging by your current interest. Here's some samples:

-Post Grunge-
Colors - Crossfade

I suggest Crowded House for a good chill out band. Always relieves my tensions.

EDIT: I always find this a good relaxing song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfjNRz-ZoBM

Don't know of any chill music but I'll just say system of a down since you claim to be open minded.

'Chill music?' Take a look at The XX. They got a bunch of awards this year. Best newcomers and such.

It's..Hm. Sort of minimalist, R&B, guitar-driven techno. Hard to describe. But definitely my new band of the year. And a lot of other people's, evidently.

Well, if you're looking for good chill music, nothing beats Pink Floyd, particularly the albums they released starting with "Meddle" in 1971 up to "The Wall" in '79. Every album they released in that period is pure gold.

For a more modern version of Floyd-esque music, definitely check out Sigur Ros - they're sort of like Floyd but they're from Iceland, and they kick so much ass. Another contemporary artist that you should check out is Radiohead. In terms of sheer consistency, nobody has anything on Radiohead. Ever since "The Bends", they have continued to release original and high-quality music. Also, since you mentioned you liked hip-hop, I'd highly recommend DJ Shadow - he does mixes, but they incorporate a myriad of different musical genres and what comes out is both an incredibly unique and very enjoyable sound.

Also check out The Strokes and The Arcade Fire - I use to be one of those people who was ignorant and thought nothing good had ever come about in music after the end of the 90s, but those artists showed me otherwise.
