Well, just today I was taking a break from my usual, yet at times indigestive diet of constant rock, and started listening to some Enya (remembering my happier childhood days), and for a second, I thought I heard a violin in the background, and out came the idea: What would a crossover of Enya and an orchestra sound like? Personally, we've seen it much harder (S&M) and it still has worked, and considering just how mellow and relaxing Enya sounds, it can't possibly go wrong (can it?) so I'd personally want to see it. Your opinions?

Some examples of her work please? I did do a google search and the first song I found did have an orchestral backing so I'm kinda lost as to what you're on about.

It would just sound like Enya, but with an orchestra. Enya's music is so notoriously layered it's practically "orchestral" anyway. I wager it would be hard to even tell the difference.

Personally I'd like to see Orchestral music mixed with Techno. The same thing was done very well in Batman Beyond but I would like to see some more experimentation with it, like mixing techno with Lux Aeterna

Good point, I didn't think about that. Maybe through subtituting the many layers of choral sounds with the orchestral instruments?
I just love classical music.

Ummmm Een-Yah?

Eh orchestras have worked with a variety of other bands. As you said S&M and the Tool orchestra album was awesome so it may work with some unknown person.
You don't know Enya? Well, it's not entirely surprising, she isn't the hardest rocker out there (quite the opposite in fact), but I heartily reccommend her, she makes one of the most beautiful musics I've seen in quite a while. Give it a listening.

What, you mean like this?

Trust me, it's been done thousands of times with just about every popular piece of orchestral music you can think of.

It still wouldn't sound all that different. Sure, it'd be kind of nice, but then Enya's whole sound is that choral thing and if you mess with it too much, you lose a lot of what makes Enya Enya.

Maybe would of worked better with Clannad but her own stuff doesn't have the same levels of texture to make it work.

if it was with Clannad though I'd pay to see that.

It would still be interesting. After all, I've listened to other artists together with orchestras (including myself) and I think that the orchestral arrangement simply brings a different feel to it. After all, the S&M concert didn't vary much with the orchestra, it was still Metallica. AND THANK GOD FOR THAT.

I'm not a big fan of Metallica, but I really liked S&M. I think that was a very good idea and the performance was fantastic. It would be interesting to hear crossover of Enya and an orchestra but this would be a much harder task as her songs are very complex containing dozens of instrumental and vocal tracks.
Anyway, Enya is a unique artist. She can write melodies comparable to the ones you can hear only in classical music and if you listen to her songs carefully you will find dozens of musical elements that shows an extraordinary talent in composing music. She can express emotions through the music in a way only the best composers can do. Although she doesn't use many acoustic instruments, the instrumentation in her songs is so perfect that only a few musicians can do similar (for example Vangelis). And "by the way" she said to have one of the most beautiful female voices in popular music. Every one of the above abilities is very rare, how can someone have all of these musical talents?
