I'm looking at paying a friend to acquire all the parts I'm looking for and putting them together. How much does the cheapest computer than can run... let's say Dragon Age cost if each part is bought individually.

250 USD on a computer to run Dragon age? I'd like to see the prices and parts on that.

Really 50 bucks for a monitor?

Yeah, if you run it on the lowest settings at 640x480 on a used CRT! Obviously!

You could do it for 250 USD but it wouldn't be anything to brag about or even mention. I would say minimum 400 USD to build a machine you can be satisfied gaming on for now. of course that is not counting the cost of the OS.

Monitors are very cheap these days (and with a low res one you don't need much power to max games.

Firstly, that's Australian.

Secondly, I wasn't far off with "used".

~$800 is a good budget for a PC gaming rig that can play a game like Dragon Age, if you want a chance at playing Dragon Age 2 when it comes out

I apologize, Moose Man, but the computers I build on-the-cheap (That can perform as well as you are asking for) are from scrapped parts I find and bolt together.

Perhaps you should look into a parts recycler.

Spend some extra money, get a low-end "gamer" PC with Sandybridge.

An example would be either of the Sandybridge CPUs, 4/6/8gigs of RAM, a GTX560 or HD6870/50, and a P67 mobo.

And found a frame rate of about 15 acceptable

First thing out of my "mouth" was "minimum" :p

You could scrap together a 300-400 dollar computer to easily run Dragon Age. There's nothing wrong with used or refurbished monitors. and CRTs really are cheap as hell.

600 could probably get it to run max or near max at 30 frames. Just have to know where and how to look :p I'd say 600 is reasonable anyway though.
