A new gaming Icon

So over the years we have seen many gaming Icons by which I mean characters such as Mario, Sonic, Link who are seen as more light heated characters that make you feel warm heated just playing as them or beating there current game. Today the trend is with more "hardcore" characters. The bad asses like Master Chief, Gordon Freeman, Kratos and Marcus Fenix. Who make you feel good while playing a game and while beating it. But in more of "hey this is kick ass" way. Making you feel like yeah your the biggest baddest mother -Bleeper- in the universe.

Yet here is my questions.

Do you think we need a new gaming Icon and what sort of icon should he be?

My answer would have to be yes. While I still love many of the icon's of today. I feel that gaming icons like sonic and Mario that can be considered icon's of yesterday are growing stale and we need new ones. As well as the Icons of today all seem to have that same element of being some big guy who can kick butt and not much more.

So I think there should be a new warm and fussy Icon. The idea I have sprouts from Dragon ball. Not to be mistaken by dragon ball z, but the first series where Goku is a kid and is off adventuring. Yet having a certain innocence about it.

So my new Icon would be maybe a Kid possibly some similar to Sonic in the way that he may be animal such as wolf (which I would prefer because they are my favorite animal). His characteristics would be that he is a bit of a clown, yet knows at least a little bit about fighting and is the classic boyscout that you encounter with these sorts of characters. I'm not sure if I would want him to have any special power though besides ones that may come naturally to him. Such as a heightened smell and hearing if he was a wolf boy.

Now I know my sounds cheesy, but its these sort of characters I remember from the cartoons that I watched as a kid that left you with a good feeling and the wanting to do good. I think it also added to the awesome that they were.

I guess the thing that makes a character Iconic is the impression it leaves on people after they have finished playing the game or stopped watching the show.

Okay what I'm trying to say. Yes even though it sounds like a nostalgia trip. I want a new gaming Icon who doesn't have to be the biggest bad ass in the universe. I want him to be a hero like in all the great kids shows. (easiest way to explain). I also want to here your Idea.

I would have liked it to be this guy. Cute, curious (in a way - he wields a magnifying glass and looks for incriminating boxes), nostalgic look (but not in a way the cool kids are gonna think "OLD --> BAD").

Hell, if they'd made his game a little more groundbreaking I might not even be saying this.

Sackboy.

He's infinitely variable but instantly recognisable at the same time - an ideal symbol for the video games of today.

I wouldnt say the problem is that they're stale; but rather that they are being over used and need to stop being used to make a quick buck by the big shots.

Some people are naming off icons that are already...icons.

If you want a list of Nintendo's icons, play Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

For Playstation, we have Crash Bandicoot, Solid Snake, Spyro the Dragon, Rachet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sackboy, Kratos (the God of War), and pretty much every key Final Fantasy character. You can argue with Nintendo/Sony, but the only ones that matter for today's social acceptance is FF7, 8, 9, and 10. You can pretty much guarantee the 13 characters, too. Why? Well, the game sells waay more on the PS3 over the 360. The greatest part is Sony isn't even advertising the game.

Unfortunately, for the Xbox 360 (I had collaborated with this with several owners of 360's and even they couldn't think of anyone past...) has Masterchief and Marcus Fenix. If you want to go with the other group decision, we chose the dog from Fable II. Because he's a pretty kickass puppy. Though, I'd probably say that Conviction's version of Sam Fisher is the best one out there. But, only one game...can't really be an icon especially since it's not a huge hit. And the other Splinter Cell games were on the Playstation as well.

For PC, I'd say Blizzard's Starcraft and Warcraft's characters (such as Raynor and Arthas) dominate a large region. Blizzard North's (please repsect that Diablo I and II were NOT made by Blizzard. Blizzard's only touch in any Diablo game is Diablo III because the original team split off. They recently made Torchlight.) Diablo, maybe? Gordon Freeman, GLaDOS is pretty popular.
