While "c--t" is a lovely word and all, it still insults people with that body part every time it is used negatively. My female equipment isn't a violent cyber-extremist, and I don't think violent cyber-extremists are delicious enough to be compared to my female equipment.

A word will come, and when it does, it'll be awesome. Until then... idk.

the term gamer is fast becoming a toxic and very negative label so gameaphile works well for someone who takes gaming seriously but isnt a complete tosspot
Ironically, describing yourself as a gameaphile would make most people more likely to think you're a tosspot.

OT: Can we shorten game **** to gunt? Gunt. As in stop being a complete fucking gunt Dave. Like that.

That's what it wants you to think.

Do any of you see the irony of using a derogatory term for female genitalia to slander a group of people who harass women? It's like if LBGTers started calling their haters dyke or fag.
Hence why I'll stick to what seems like the only valid option; i.e. any non-gender-specific insult I can think of at the particular moment. Right now, I think I'll just call them morons. Maybe assholes, at a later date. Both genders have assholes, so that works.

Unless there's Argonians or Salarians somewhere in the mix. Then I'll have to call them Cloacas.

Seriously though, I don't see the need for a gaming-specific word for someone being an asshat. We have more than enough words for that kind of behaviour, why should we assume that this is something only gamers are capable of?
I think **** is quite fitting but lets engage in a little thought experiment.
Someone who has no connection to games reads an article about e.g. a woman being harassed online and finds the word refering to the person guilty of said harassment.
That person might not know the term used and googles it. If the result is just a random insult like **** they might see that this person is being justly insulted but thats it, they are just insulted.
But if that person looks up the definition and finds something along the line "person who harasses people online, sends death threads because his game got a content patch etc." and then something like" shunned in online forums and gaming" then this sends a clear message to the world that the gaming community opposes those people.

If we can change the meaning of the word **** to that, awesome^^ i just don´t think that will happen.

The "power" of the word increased the more people use it, hence why i should be something that´s catchy enough to....well catch on and its meaning should be discernible from the term itself.
You make a good point, but anonymous online-only asshats generally already have names - trolls, griefer, etc.

We use words like "harrassment" and such when these things have a more palpable real-world effect, which is as it should be. Nobody gets arrested for griefing or trolling, but when it turns to prolonged harrassment, real-life threats, then you're getting into known crimes and sticking with known words does more good for everyone in the long run than inventing new words by way of saying "but everyone else TOTALLY wasn't okay with it".

Just to be clear when you say "extremists" I assume that you mean both MRA neck-beards AND femiNazis right? Anyway previous people in the thread suggested "****" my only problem with that is that it isn't descriptive enough to separate them from your regular garden variety douche bags. Furthermore it isn't culturally sensitive as in my country, (Australia) the word "****" is frequently used as a term of endearment. I think "Gender Debate Fundamentalist Fuckwits (GDFF)" is a nice term. However I think the core problem is that people who possibly lean in one direction but aren't actually "extremists" (*Coughs* Jim Sterling, JonTron *coughs*) will end up getting put in this category for ad-hominem purposes.

Do you apply the same principal to calling someone a dick? If you're fine with someone being called a dick (as most people seem to be), why is someone being called a **** 'insulting people with that body part every time it is used negatively'?

I have to agree with you on that. In my opinion thats the equalist(according to some not feminisim) point of view is. If men and women are to be seen equal then whats the difference between the insults "****" and "dick".
Either we allow both insults to be used on both genders or we limit either insult to its specific gender.
Again, if men and women are to be seen as equal, which is kinda the idea i got what feminism is, then why should there be a difference on how are allowed to apply these insults?

Yeah... I am with those people that believe a gamers specific term is unnecessary. Specially when terms like asshole, morons, dicks, idiots, dirtbags, douchebags, scumbags and cunts are perfectly applicable.
